View Full Version : Next 4 game stretch

It was assumed pre conference UC would probably lose a game they shouldn't and win a game they shouldn't. Well they have lost 1 game they shouldn't if not 2. The next 4 game stretch, all of which they should lose, they need to win one of them to get back on track. Were UC to lose the next 4 and go to 3-8 in the conference then it's a fight for the NIT. Even the 3 bottom feeder teams left on the schedule are not sure wins. South Florida is looking better all the time and beating them at home isn't going to be easy. If St Johns gets some players back from injury, Kennedy and the boys are going to come to UC with the revenge factor in mind. So I think somehow, someway UC needs to win at least 1 of the next 4 games.

No doubt. Just have to beat G-town or Notre Dame at home. Notre Dame is not great and neither is Gtown. THey both have better players but that doesn't mean we can't win. At Villianova is going to be tough because they have some good guards. At G-town will be tough as well. Never seem to even come close there.

I think Notre Dame and Georgetown are winnable games. Don't confuse "winnable" games as "we're going to win."
Definately have to win ND or Gtown, but BOTH would be huge. Also, we're battling both teams for position in the League right now.

then it's a fight for the NIT.
Did you really think given the state of the team and the league that anything beyond NIT was realistic? For this program to make the NIT would actually be a very positive accomplishment.
They have three "winnable" games left in SJU, Seton Hall, and at USF. If they can manage to win those then they will have 16 wins for the season and be assured of a non-losing record, and a likely NIT berth. To get to the big show they would need at least three more league wins against better teams. I could see them stealing a win or two, but it's hard to imagine them leaping much farther. Right now UC is 84 in the RPI. Not enough to get them in without some very impressive upset wins.

I think what UC is battling for right now is a decent seed in the NIT. Anything less than a 5 seed means a very tough first game in the NIT and it could be one and done.

For those RPI watchers. Kenpom.com has UC as 84 in the RPI. collegerpi.com has UC as 65. teamrankings.com has UC as 59. So pick a number you like. Any one of them has UC probably on the outside of the NCAA looking in, unless they score some upsets. The good news is, at least they have the games on the schedule to try it.

The good thing is these next four games provide opportunity to make some noise.

Exactly right. 2-2 is a success. 3-1 is fantastic. 1-3 is probably expected?

Gtown home and home, at Nova, and ND at USB arena. Honestly I would be happy with one win, and very very happy with two.

Playing in the NIT or the CBI is a much better option for UC this season. UC would have absolutely no chance of winning the NCAA tourney this season should they make it. UC would have a chance of winning the NIT or CBI. This team is constantly improving and kudos to Mick for that. The team has already matched the win total of 2007-2008 so they may have already earned their spot in the CBI. Things keep getting better and better as each goes by under the direction of Mick.

The next four games are a very tough stretch.
We MUST win at least one, that is just a given.
I see us maybe being able to put up 2-2. If we can give the kind of effort against both G Town and ND that we did against UConn, I think their is a possibility we can steal one of those two.
I will be hoping and watching.

In the daily RPI's UC is 57 (realtimerpi.com) and in Sagarin UC is 56. UC is a very good basketball team this season, ranked in the top 20% of all college division 1 basketball teams. Shows what a great job Mick has done in a short 3 year time.

I think ralph says these over the top things to get a reaction - surely he doesn't think this team is very good?! If this is a very good team, I guess we don't have much room for improvement then. Maybe the next step up would be an "excellent" team?

I just watched Seaton Hall beat Georgetown! Georgetown really looks bad right now. Can't make a 3 to save their life. Looks like a UC zone to me.

But remember, every team that can't buy a 3 in games before they play UC,"suddenly" becomes deadly from 3-point range.

Not a doubt in my mind that if we beat Georgetown that you will post what a terrible team they are. The fact that you MAY graduate from UC cheapens the value of my degree.

Being in the top 20% is very good. I am sure that if you scored in the top 20 percentile on the SAT test, you were smarter than 80% of the people who took the test, you would be feeling very good about yourself.

How can you say that being in the top 20% of college basketball is not very good? The top 65 teams do not get in the NCAA tourney. 20 spots in the tourney go to automatic qualifiers from minor conferences. Being in the NCAA tourney is not the be all to end all because at least 20 teams not in the NCAA tourney are better than teams that are in the NCAA tourney.

They have done NOTHING on the basketball court to make me believe that they can beat any of the next four teams. The only thing I have is my hope as a fan that they will do something that they haven't done yet this season. There is a lot of data in "the system" at this point in the season. Based on what I've seen, they won't make the NIT.
They lack of PG play is not going away this season.

People who brag about their grades/scores are the same people who always sit there and feel the need to quantify the number of drinks they have in a night or given period of time. Get over yourself. People who have **** to brag about, don't brag...because they have class. People who brag about things they have are covering up insecurities.

I see one win in the next 4 games. Although, UC might be taken lightly by one of those opponents, and sneak an additional win.
I hate Notre Dame because they have that inside-outside thing going well with Harangody and McAlarney. Tough matchup for UC. I look to lose that game unless ND is cold from outside, which rarely happens.
I think G'town can be beat, but it will be tough with Seton Hall knocking them off. G'town won't be taking anyone lightly the next few games. I wish we played them on the road first and got them at home later.
At Villanova is a tough order. No win there.
More than likely, this team finishes 16-14 or 17-13 and goes to the NIT. They might win a game in the Big East Tourney though.
I see Bishop improving and becoming an offensive force. Except for the last game, I've seen Mike Williams step up his offense. We need to see Yancy and Dixon step up their offensive games next, while the others continuing to contribute. We should be having 4 to 5 players score 10-12 points instead of one or two carrying the load.

In case UC loses the next 4, I have a song you can sing real slow to make you feel better. I have replaced Kentucky with UC in the song. " The sun shines bright in the old UC home, 'Tis summer, the darkies are gay; By'm-by hard times comes a-knocking at the door, Then my old UC home good-night! Weep no more, my la-dy, O weep no more to-day! We will sing one song for the old UC home, For the old UC home far a-way.
