With this current group of players, who do you think has the best potential to replace Deonta's scoring after he graduates? I think Gates has the potential to average 15 a game, but if he progresses he may leave with Deonta. Rashad Bishop is smooth around the basket, but can he consistently hit from the outside? Dion Dixon is a solid player, but he doesnt have a good enough jump shot to fill it up like Deonta.
Dixon would be my guess.

Dixon has a good enough jump shot he just seems to be uncomfortable with it at the moment or something. He will doing it all at the sg spot after next year

I think I am going to start a thread called "Life After Chane", dedicated (of course) to who will step in and fill the "Shoes of Chane" after he leaves.
Oh wait...he isn't even here yet? Wait, he won't be here until when?
Oh...you mean, Deonta has a full season left AFTER this year?
Hmmmm...uh...never mind...
No seriously, not meaning to jest at anyone's expense, because I actually do love the debate these threads usually start, but, on this one I am going to say lets enjoy Deonta while he is here.
We could get a transfer from who knows where and he could step in for Deonta and average 25 a game.

There will be even more options after DV.Especially since there should still be several seniors and Dixon and Cash Wright.

Actually I think it will be Kilpatrick. Not coming until next year, but from what I read, he is a great shooter and high basketball IQ already.

From what I have read about SK, he reminds me of Lenny Stokes. Hopefully he will be as successful as Stokes was at UC.

I get the same impression. In spite of what I have heard of his shooting, the consensus is that SK is at his best when attacking the basket. This team sorely needs that.

No offense but I always felt Stokes did not live up to his potential. He teased us all with that huge game in the tourney against UCLA then did not produce to the level I felt he could again.

Two years away, no reason to worry about it now as I am sure Mick will find a very capable recruit to take his place.

Dixon. He is already starting to outshine the sophs.

Dixon is probably one of the top 3 competitors on the team.

I don't think anyone will step up to the level Deonta did. To be honest, I think Deonta will be known as one of the all time greats before his time is done here. He will be almost solely responsible for hopefully bringing the Cats out of one of their most critical times in basketball history! And If Deonta gets to play his natural position all year next season.......Look out BEAST!!

There is a difference. Deonta can flat out score. His all around game and basketball i.q. is not near as high as several players I can think of right off the top of my head. Glad we have him but to say he is one of the best "players" ever is not accurate to me. Of course that is just my opinion. He only effects the game from a scoring stand point. He doesn't change the game on defense, and he doesn't make players around him better.

Bearcat Jeff that is a ludicrous post.
Deonta makes the players around him better by drawing the defensive focus onto himself. Not everyone has taken FULL advantage of that yet.. but Mike is starting to. Dion and the wing guards have all had their moments. He is averaging over 5 assists per game playing a position he has NEVER played.
Deonta may make some bad decisions at times, but so does everyone who plays a position they have never really played.
Deonta is awesome.

He does make players around him better by drawing attention, but the players around him rarely hit shots that Deonta frees them up for.
In order to make players around you better, the players around you need to understand their roles and the system they are playing in. I think that it is pretty clear to everyone who watches UC play, that there are some identity problems within the team, and guys are still figuring out their roles and are yet to embrace them. Until this happens, you really cannot makes players around you that much better.

Call me crazy, but with a great point guard like Cash, we could make a transition to a bigger lineup with somebody like Wilks or Bishop at the starting 2. Wilks has a good jumper, though he can't shoot threes well.

I'd have to agree. As the old saying goes, "You are what you are!" I realize Deonta doesn't have a lot of talent around him to make things easier, but here's the reality.
He is not a shut down defender on D. He's almost a liability bc he has to play so much, he gets too tired. Not his fault, but it's a reality
His assist to turnover ratio is not very good. His mistakes lead to a lot of easy buckets
His career 3FG% is barely over 30%. For comparison, Field Williams (40%), Burton (39%), LaZelle (39%), Steve Logan (38%), Van Exel (365)
He has not yet lead his team to a winning season. Again, not his fault...but you are what you are
No doubt he is a great scorer and a good player...but he is far from Oscar Robertson or Steve Logan or Kenyon Martin. You could even make the argument that with studs all around him his point production would go down.

LOL what a stupid analysis. The guy is currently the only offensive weapon on a team that plays in the Big East and he still carries this team and puts up stats that earned him all Big East First team last year.
To even mention Stokes as being better than Vaughn shows how stupid you are.
Vaughn was better than Logan as a sophomore, which is what he was Kenyon's senior year. Logan, however was a better point guard.
Satterfield wasn't as good as Vaughn, but he was a better point guard....

Can you offer up an evidence to support your claims? (Not saying you're wrong, I simply want to hear some clearly thought points to support your claim).
One could make the argument that Vaughn has good stats in points and avg. because he is the only go to guy since day 1. Logan, Stokes and Satterfield were not. Maybe if Logan was shooting 12-15 shots a game as a frosh and sophomore, he would've averaged 18-20 ppg.
Satterfield averaged almost 10ppg as a true frosh on the #1 team in the country. He was also a really good defender and rebounder (on a team that had other great rebounders). He averaged almost 70 assists more per season than Vaughn, almost 60 more rebounds a season than Vaughn, and averaged about 15ppg as a sophomore (about equal to Vaughn's career average).
I don't know how you can legitimately say Vaughn was better than Satterfield (or Satterfield was better than Vaughn).
Stokes and Vaughn are apples and oranges. Stokes was way more versatile but he was a Scottie Pippen. Vaughn is much more clutch and deadly scorer, but much more 1 dimensional.
