Jones backs away from IU commitment
Fort Wayne North graduate Eshaunte Jones has backed out of his verbal commitment to the Indiana University basketball team but could still end up playing for the Hoosiers.
Jones, who goes by the nickname "Bear," is attending prep school in 2007-08 and is ranked as one of the top 150 players in the 2008 class.
"He is decommitting," said Eric Vaughn, Jones' summer coach. "Indiana is still at the top of his list. He just wants to open up his recruitment. They're still at the top.
"Bear loves (IU assistant) Ray McCallum and coach (Kelvin) Sampson. He just wants to see what other options are out there."
Missouri, Cincinnati and Oklahoma are among the schools Vaughn said are likely to be back in the mix.
Jones will attend either Hargrave Military (Va.) or the Patterson School (N.C.) for prep school, Vaughn said.
