Cincinnati is not in the mix on any of the top 40 recruits for 2009...

Let's hope Mick can change that.

Interesting article listing the places those prospects will be this summer. Seems like the buzz around the addidas camp this week is nice (I hope to get down there Sat) but the LeBrom James Camp this weekend is getting the higher ranked prospects.
What is up that UC is not even mentioned as being in the mix with any of these juniors? I would think that '09 would build into an even better class for UC because Mick is a great recruiter, his job made easier by having such a GREAT University!

That is not surprising. Right now, Mick does not have a scholarship to give in 2009 - he has one projected spot and Danny McElroy has verballed.
It is hard to be in the mix with a recruit when he doesn't think you have a scholarship.
Of course a lot can change and I'm sure Mick is maintaining some contact with some of the 2009 recruits.
The bigger priorities are a PG and C for 2008 and a PG in 2010.

I bet a scholarship or two become available for the 2009 class. No info but, knowing how NCAA sports work, I'm sure somebody will leave or maybe even go pro early.

If the backup plan for Henry doesn't work out, then I would like to see Mick hold the scholly back for the '09 class. No inside information but if McClain continues to develop, it wouldn't surprise me to see him leave after his sophmore year which would free up another '09 scholly. 7'0 centers as athetically gifted as McClain usually don't spend too much time in college

I just don't see Mick holding a scholarship for '09 unless there are absolutely no good candidates left in 2008. I think the classes will balance out naturally or through the JC route, but I see him fulfilling all available for 2008.

Well, first off, these are not THE top 40 juniors but just the writer's opinion of the top 40. That particular writer is not even a prominent recruiting analyst. In fact, quite the opposite.

I was thinking the same thing...what a hack this "analyst" is. He must be some Ohio State alum with OSU listed for 35 of the 40

I was thinking the same thing, plus how can 35 guys all say they would play for that team, I just don't see them as a Duke or North Carolina, yes they have been good lately, but normally you need staying power to get a following like that.

do not be surprised if we see mcclain starting at center,
with hrycaniuk starting power forward.
with williams backing up hrycaniuk and hrycaniuk backing
up mcclain.

The one thing I think that is given is that Vaughn and Williams will be in the starting lineup. If Henry is ineligible and Williamson's knees don't hold up and McClain plays well, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mick go big with both H and McClain in there, especially since H has a face up game (although I don't know about his quickness and ball-handling skills). Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Mitchell is a SF, I think he is more of a SG. I still think Mitchell will start and if they run 3 guards then Gentry starts as well with Vaughn. If Mick goes bigger then I see Vaughn, Mitchell, H, Williams, McClain.
On another note, anyone have anything on Danny McElroy? Dustin Dow wrote today that he played well this morning at the Adidas Camp but didn't elaborate any further. I had heard that he has gotten stronger and is playing much more assertive and aggressive this year. I know last year the coaches at LaSalle were a little concerned about his lack of aggression and/or passion but supposedly he has played better this spring/summer. Can anyone add anything else?

There's no way that Hrycaniuk starts ahead of Williams at PF. Adam H has looked decent in the Deveroes League, but Williams and Vaughn are the two best UC players in these games.
Until McClain proves he can play at a high level, don't be surprised if Mick skips the center position and plays two PFs together. McClain is an unknown at this point. Yes, he's nearly 7' tall, and supposedly can guard the post and block shots, but he'll be new to the system. I'm sure he'll get playing time during the early OOC games, so that Mick can size him up.
Hopefully, McClain will get to play at some point this summer, so that some of us can compare him to other D1 big men in the league.
