All State punter from Cinti Hills Christian Academy, class of 2010, likely to commit. KC and staff have been all over this kid, and UC is at the top of his list.

Don't see 2 punters on taking up 2 of the 85 only a year apart. Maybe he walks on, but can't see him getting an official offer.

CHCA punter survives freak accident
In football, punters are defined by the steps they take. A two-step punter takes his first step with his kicking leg. A three-step punter takes the first step with his off leg.
John Lloyd is the punter for Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, an all-Miami Valley Conference selection and an Enquirer first-team all-star in Divisions II-VI.
Ask him what kind of punter he is, and he'll tell you a lucky one.
One step nearly cost him his life.
On the weekend before Christmas, John was visiting relatives in Michigan, taking in a Red Wings game with a cousin and his college buddies. As they left Joe Louis Arena, John took out his cell phone and texted his mother to let her know they were on their way home. He slipped the phone into his back pocket, stepped up to the sidewalk and came down on a manhole cover.
An electric shock lifted him off the ground and deposited him in a heap on the snowy sidewalk.
Beneath that manhole cover, the Lloyd family said it later learned, lay corroded wiring, enough to deliver 480 volts of electricity through John's 6-foot-3, 230-pound frame.
"I felt a cramp in my left arm," John says, "and then I felt it shoot through my whole body. It was the worst pain I've ever felt."
John's cousin called 911, then his mother, Camille. Strangely, when John landed, his phone dialed the family's Evendale home, and his father, Steve, answered, only to hear the commotion. Steve hung up and dialed Camille and learned what had happened. John lay there until an ambulance arrived. He never lost consciousness, but movement was out of the question; the shock had exhausted his muscles.
"It basically shut my whole body down," John says.
That's typical of electric shock injuries, according to Dr. Ben Wedro, a LaCrosse, Wis.-based emergency physician who runs the medical resource site mddirect.org.
"Electricity follows the path of least resistance, so tissues with lots of water and electrolytes transmit the electrical charge. That means skin, muscle and blood vessels are good conduits," he says. "AC electricity has a tendency to cause repeated muscle contractions, or tetany, and cause significant muscle injury and breakdown."
If the affected muscles are the diaphragm and chest wall, Wedro says, breathing can be compromised; if it's the heart, arrhythmia or cardiac arrest can result.
John was in the trauma unit at Detroit Receiving Hospital for 14 hours, undergoing an exhaustive battery of tests. Though initially his heartbeat was slightly irregular, his movement had returned. Other than extreme fatigue and soreness, he was fine, and he was released the next day.
John's heartbeat since has returned to normal, tests last week showed.
"The doctors seemed surprised that I made it through with no serious medical issues," he says.
What saved John? Several factors:
His size and overall good physical condition.
Being thrown clear of the manhole cover, thus avoiding a second surge. "In AC injuries, the victim is often unable to get away from the exposure, and there is prolonged contact," Wedro says. "The longer the contact, the more potential for injury."
His gym shoes, which have extra rubber support in the heel and absorbed some of the surge. The brand? Nike Shox. The Lloyds have had a few wry laughs about that.
Two weeks after the incident, they manage to find some humor in it. "As a father, I can't help but wonder if it might add 5 yards to his punts and 3 miles an hour to his fastball," Steve says. "Is that wrong?"
Of course, it could have ended differently, and the family is grateful it didn't.
They returned to the scene a day later and were relieved to find a crew working on the problem.
They said the crew filled in some blanks for them, such as the faulty wiring and the amount of voltage involved.
While such incidents seem rare, they're not unprecedented. There have been several reports of dogs being electrocuted by stray voltage in recent years, and in 2004 a New York woman was electrocuted when she and her dogs stepped on a charged manhole cover.
Steve said the family has spoken to an attorney, but not as a precursor to litigation. He said they wanted to pursue the correct channels to make sure what happened to John doesn't happen again.
"I'm glad this happened to me," John says, "and not somebody else who could have been critically injured, or even killed."

Isn't this year's recruit a kicker too? This might be our future kick and punt tandem...or at least competition.

I thought that this year's recruit was a punter first a kicker second. We lost both our punter this year and our back-up kicker. Maybe this year's recruit is intended to do the punting while competing with Rogers for the kicking. Maybe Lloyd is intended to be the competition for the new kid.

I would imagine if they went after any kicker this year it would be Tony Miliano at Elder. He's supposed to be one of the top kickers in the country in the Class of 2010. I read about 70% of his kicks were touchbacks last year.

I would have said there is no way that UC would offer another kicker this year, but they did offer Drew Basil. I wonder if O'Donnell is going to be a kicker or a punter? I know that Basil was projected to be both, but mainly a kicker. BCL also reported another walkon that may be with the team in a kicking capacity later this year, but until it is public I won't mention who it is.

That might be true but UF and Texas want him as well and I got that directly from one his close friends.
I don't think KC needed a YouTube video to know of this young man....maybe just maybe it was to get noticed nationally since CHCA is D5.
Also, any update on KC's endorsement as HC once BK leaves...

We already have a punter on scholarship so it is unlikely we offer another one this year, especially when we only have a few scholarships left to offer. If he is really waiting for a UC offer, he is going to be waiting for a very long time.

But you don't use a scholarship on more than one. We have other needs that are more pressing. O'Donnel was one of the top punters in the country last season and is already taking a scholarship. We only have three scholarships available right now, and we need recievers. Some more will likely open up, and if all our other needs are met first, then we can offer this kid, but not yet.

Rogers has been practicing at the punter position so he could be the backup. Also, the kid from X could also punt. I am not trying to down play how good this kid could be. I also do not know how good the kid from Florida can be. I will leave it up to BK to get the best players he can.

OK, here's some info...
I coached John Lloyd a few years back. Great kid. He was thumping 'em 40 yards as a 6th grader. I didn't realize how valuable that was until he was gone.
I spoke to his dad at a 7on7 a few weeks ago. Said John's been all over the place. Invited to and punted at Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, UC, Florida, Vandy, Texas. Few others I can't remember. Said Florida's 'Friday Night Lights' was awesome. John was the only punter invited. Has been told he's #2 or #3 on every "board". Attended a 3 day Invitational camp. 130 punters invited and attended. John finished 5th. Guys above and below him have committed to places like USC, Michigan State, others. One kid has 15 offers, but hasn't committed.
He plays several other positions, which explains why he needs to wear two numbers sometimes. He's a QB/TE/DE/OL/H...
Great kid, great family, good student, darned good punter. We should grab him...

I had told John's dad that I would try to see John punt before the season ended. I was able to do that last Friday night.
He punted once in the first half. It was a 54 yarder, great hangtime and into the wind at that. I stayed and watched him warm up for the second half. He was hitting bombs, then moved over to kicker where he was nailing 55 yarders. Just missed on two 60 attempts. I think they also have an all state kicker from last year, so I think John just punts, holds and kicks off once in a while.
I left just before the second half began. I think CHCA won 60 something to 20 something. Rumor in the crowd was that Miami and a few others were there to watch him as well.
We need to grab this kid.

I asked the same question when I saw them both warming up last Friday night. It's Zak Wyche, son of former coach Sam. You may have heard of him...
The snapper is excellent, too. Apparently the three of them have been doing this together since 7th grade. PAT's are automatic. Together, they gotta be best in the state (or states)...

Yep, I expect him to get a preferred walk on offer. Then it becomes a tough decision. Go to the school you want to go to (if reports from earlier in this thread are right about him wanting to go to UC) and pay for at least a year maybe more depending on the scholarship situation, or go get a free ride at Louisville. If it was just a MAC scholarship offer it would probably be a bit easier to turn down to get a chance to play BCS football.

OK...I think I might be confused.
I was of the understanding is that a "preferred walk-on" was someone that you did not need to offer a scholarship to.
Perhaps they are on an academic full ride...perhaps one of his parents works at the school and tuition is paid for...something like that. In other words...they are absolutely considered part of the team...but you don't need to burn one of the allotted scholly's on the player.
Is my understanding incorrect?

Very few kickers are offered scholarships out of H.S. unless they are very special. This kid looks the part and still may receive scholarship from UC but will probably be Feb 1st or Feb 2nd when the staff knows who's going to sign, pulls some offers, or knows definitely who's not returning to roster.

Wait, so you can't see that not happening, or you can't see that happening? Lloyd seems like a guy that we should try to find a scholarship for if we can. Remember BK being asked who he missed most from the 2008 team? He didn't hesitate in saying Kevin Huber. We've all seen what a top punter can do for a team and I really don't know why less emphasis is placed on the position in recruiting. I guess because there are so few good ones? Lloyd looks like he's the real deal to me though (admittedly, I have only seen highlight tapes).

A prefferred walk-on by definition is very vague. It is someone that you do not offer a scholly to but would like to walk on the team with a verbal agreement that the player will make the team. Prefferred walk-ons are typically garaunteed a spot on the team 90% of the time, with the incentive of either earning a scholarship at a later date, or as you explained...can receive financial aid through other means. The prefferred walk on status is more like a negotiation between the player and coach and varies with each "offer".

Sorry, I can't see that happening. The problem is that you get 85 scholarships and to use two on punter puts you in a bad position. Most of the time they will earn scholarships in the 2nd or 3rd year if they end up starting over the chancellorship player.

Most of them just get it in camps. I am sure there are a few schools out there that have former kickers working with the kids, but that is not the norm. Even in college, most kids make improvements from what they learn with specialized kicking coaches and camps they attend over the summer. Special teams coaches are there more for developing schemes than working on kicking technique.
