Henry was probably ready to contribute initially more than Wilks will. However, sounds like Henry would have followed in the hallowed steps of Mike Pilgrim and Vincent Banks. Million dollar game with a .10 cent work ethic.
Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt.
Absolutely UNTRUE about Banks. Worked hard as a UC frosh to qualify for play the next season. Second best player (and worker) on 2005 roster after Jason Maxiell.
His father got terminally ill in 2005 so Banks went home to Atlanta to care for him and his younger siblings.
Pure BS about his lack of work ethic. Total hogwash. Ask any coach on 2005 team.

Hmmm. AK must have been telling a fib at Rick's when he announced that Banks had no chance to come back after going home to be with his father because he didn't hold up his end of the bargain in the classroom during his "year off."

If he had the work ethic to begin with he would have been eligible his freshman year. He even went to prep for a year. He obviously didn't have that strong of a work ethic. The article about him a few months ago also points out the flaws in his work ethic.
Although he left to take care of his father, rumors were swirling (and I heard from someone personally) that there was a decent chance he wasn't going to be eligible for the next season anyway.
So, no, it's not total hogwash.

He wasn't in the classroom during his (2006) year off. He played JuCo ball in Atlanta in 2007.
He was on target to be eligible (for 2006) until he left UC in spring of 2005.

UC has had a number of Prop 48 (ineligible frosh year) with great work ethic. I'll name a few - Levertis Robinson, Keith Starks, and Louis Banks are 3 of them.

That doesn't mean Banks had a great work ethic. I could name just as many ineligible players that didn't have a great work ethic...Banks might have had a great work ethic when he was on the court, but he certainly didn't off the court.

Indeed HE DID - coaches and observers (of practices) in 2005 said he was the 2nd best player on the team behind Jason Maxiell.

Yes, I heard that too. What that has to do with his off court work ethic is beyond me. I guess it is your way of changing the subject. AK said he didn't have a good work ethic, an article was posted not too long ago saying he didn't have a good work ethic, not to mention his actions alone (having to go to prep school to begin with, then failing to qualify after a year of prep) speak for themselves. Henry might have been the second best player on this year's team, what would you say about his work ethic?
I remember back when James White first transferred here, there was an article (can't remember who, maybe DeCourcy) stating that of all the practices he'd been to, numerous Big East, Big Ten, Pac 10, etc, James White was the best or second best player he'd seen. Not that White wasn't good, but he definitely was the best or second best. A lot happens in practice that doesn't happen in games. I remember Huggins saying how Bobbit was always the best player/shooter in practice. Didn't always translate into games.

I believe Tom is right. My recollection of Banks is of a very good player. It was a big loss when he went home.

No one said he wasn't a good player. That was just used my Tom to skirt his assertion that Banks had a great work ethic. He OBVIOUSLY did not have a great work ethic.

I think you are equating good player with good student. According to the coaches, it was touch and go whether he was going to be eligible in 2006 (again) regardless of what happened with his dad. And according to what I read in an article posted on this website, he failed to get into the JuCo last year and was unemployed, not in school, and staying in his grandmother's living room. Very sad story.

Since when are UC fans worried about good students? If they meet their minimum requirements for their Phys Ed major that's good enough. Just Kidding :)

No one said he was an Honors student, just that he was doing OK (enough) in the classroom to be eligible in 2006 had he stayed at UC.
Tom Thacker really struggled in the classroom, too. (Early 1960's) But he graduated and has a fine life since his UC days.

He wound up in another JuCo and played last season. Not sure what happened since then.
