NBA in a 'fix' (http://www.nypost.com/seven/07202007/news/columnists/nba_in_a_fix_columnists_murray_weiss.htm)
If this is true, sometimes this could represent just the tip of the iceberg.
While on the subject of refs, I find it inexcusable that certain calls are not expected to be made at the end of games. A foul in the 1st minute is a foul in the last.

I love the NBA. Great athletes, great competition, captivating games. Based on the way David Stern has behaved in the past, I'm sure this ref will be dealt with appropriately. Additionally, it's simply not fair to paint all of the league and/or refs with the same brush. Most are honest, hardworking, fair people. Not to mention, the NBA has been known to give many Bearcats a job!

Right or wrong, many inside and outside the NBA have complained about the officiating. Were stars getting treated with kid gloves? Were certain teams getting the benefit of better calls? This scandal will rock NBA refereeing in particular and the league in general to the core. None of the big four professional sports leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) up to this point has had one of its officials linked with fixing games. Having an official rig games compromises the integrity of the game. In sport, there is no worse sin.
David Stern has his work cut out for him. He will need to make refereeing and the evaluation of refs in his sport very transparent to rebuild the trust not only the viewing public but also those directly involved with the game. Any time a questionable call is made that impacts the outcome of a game, some are now going to ask, "is the fix on"?

I would imagine Mark Cuban will get heavily involved, he has been complaining about the ref's for years and also video taping them so that he can send the tapes to the NBA offices for review of calls, I'll bet the Mavericks have a whole library of tape on this guy's calls.

The link below takes you to what I believe is an excellent column about the current NBA game fixing crisis.
One man out, one league in trouble (http://forums.bearcatnews.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=4071)
The shenanigans the NBA seems to pull with regards to refereeing are ridiculous. Pay particular attention in this article to comments about game 3 in the Suns/Spurs game. It certainly sounds like the validity of the 2007 NBA championship could be in some doubt.

I have suspected for years that the college referees are betting on the games. The calls and non calls at the end of games are a tell tale sign. If it is a foul in the first minute of the game it is a foul during the last minute of the game. I have always believed the referee in the 1990 UC/XU game had bet XU on the money line, calling that the ball went off Lou Banks leg was absurd.

It is naive to think that what is happening in the NBA with refs betting on games and providing information to gamblers is not happening in college basketball also. To think is to think Northwestern basketball players would never shave points.

Northwestern would have to SCORE points to shave them. You've obviously never seen them play. GCL teams score more points in HS games.
