Mick is in studio with Mark Amazon. He just landed from a recruiting trip that had him & Tony S. in Florida last night. Any thoughts on who they were visiting?

Any prospects in the 2010 or 2011 classes from Florida?

In a way, I hate to see Alvin go because I think he was going to be an offensive contributor the next two years. I guess you can't blame Mick with the way Mitchell's attitude was. It's a shame it didn't work out.

JasonS

I am sure Mick wants guys in the program he can count on. Alvin has shown, more that once, that he is unreliable. The Bearcats also had a few too many guys in the SG/SF mold. Bishop was the only true SF (if you don't count Wilks) so this should help with roles on the team next year and minutes guys can expect to play. Look for more of Wilks at the 3 with Gates and Thomas at the 4 and 5 if we want to go big and Davis or Dixon playing the 3 if we want to go smaller. I think the Bearcats are better off without Mitchell and I am interested to see who Mick brings in.

Also, this is going to help balance the classes out more.

Mitchell was unathletic. He just doesnt get it. I would rather have his scholorship. I am sad to see Mike go, his entire career never scratched the potential.

I don't think they were quoting anything of fact. I think it was more that IMG and Riek are in Florida so maybe Mick was visiting him.

Personally, that would be a big swing from where Mick was during the season when he said the person he thought was coming wasn't.

We can hope though.

Don't completely disagree, but Mitchell had two of the more vertical put back dunks of the season.

Yes, the 'Cats need a player that will penetrate defenses and attack from within instead of shooting over the top of the defense.

D Smith seems impressed with UC's links to Marshall HS (George Wilson and Joe Stiffend).

I think UC has a real good chance to land him.

1st team All-State and best player in Chicago this season.

I understand the George Wilson part but Joe Stiffend? He beat XU on a last second shot but that was pretty much his UC career. Was Joe some Chicago high school legend?

Yes - he was a star at MHS who led them to state tourney in early 1980's.

Quite famous at Marshall HS.

I can't see Calipari taking the UK job. Next season, Memphis will probably be pre-season #1 or at least top 5. But I'm sure he'll be able to play the game well enough to get a raise.

I can see it. he can stay & retire there as a king having accomplished everything short of a NCAA championship but it comes with the perception of having done it in an inferior conference or jump the the SEC & Kentucky with all that goes along with it. perfect fit for a guy with a huge ego & love form money & attention

They went to the same high school. Darius mentioned both George Wilson and Joe Stiffend in an interview. Joe Stiffend is very highly thought of there. I would hope that George is involved in the recruiting, I'm sure he would love to see UC back where it was when he played.

I don't see a big name coach coming to UK. They'll be in the same spot as Billy G in two years. Calipari isn't coming, neither is the UF coach. KY might want to start thinking outside the box, like perhaps Bob Knight. (smiling)

Will such extensive turnover on the roster, UC is setting itself up for loss of another scholarship due to APR rule (must be 925 or higher).

Clearly he knows what he is doing or else he wouldn't have dismissed Mitchell. Williams might be on pace to graduate.

I believe Williams has already graduated. Also, if players leave in good academic standing, I don't think it hurts your APR, or at least not much.

Can anyone post or provide a link to the NCAA APR Rule? There has been much speculation but very little fact regarding the Rule. I'd imagine that MC is well aware of the Rule.

Here is another question: does anyone think it might be "worth" losing a scholarship for the 2010 class if we can add solid recruits to the 2009 class? I mean, if we only lose 1 scholarship for 2010 class, that might not hurt us that much.

I'd rather have Darius Smith in the 2009 class and miss a scholarship for the 2010 class (our Seniors would be Bishop, Wilks, Davis, McClain, and Ibr.Thomas). That means we can use 4 scholarships and keep another for the 2011 class. In fact, we probably wouldn't even use the scholarship because we need spread our classes more.

Just a thought.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing too. I always thought that the APR hit would only come if a player did not graduate or transfered without being in good academic standing. If I remember correctly, didn't Crowell leaving not effect it because he was in good academic standing?

Probably the best link I found:
http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/resources/file/eb783f0bf33dcd3/APR%20FINAL%205-2-08.pdf?MOD=AJPERES

How is APR calculated?
Each Division I sports team receives an APR. An APR of 925 roughly projects to
a 60 percent graduation success rate. To calculate the APR, every student-athlete
is tracked by eligibility and retention, the two most reliable factors in predicting
graduation. Those who do well in the classroom and stay in school earn two
points. Those who pass but do not return to school earn one point. If a studentathlete
fails academically and leaves school, their team loses two points. If a
student-athlete returns to school later and graduates, the school earns one bonus
point. The team’s APR is calculated by dividing the total points earned in a year by
the total points possible.

He loses Antonio Anderson (10 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.5 apg) and Robert Dozier (13 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 37% on 3's) to graduation and possibly Tyreke Evans to the draft. His top recruit has only an oral commitment and can follow Cal wherever he goes.
