That is some great news, by no means is the DSL any where near Big East (or any D-1 "team" oriented play) caliber, but still impressive against some strong talent. Point being....The JWarren of last year's team could not have won this award...seems like there has been some drastic improvement. Actually kind of surprised this post hasn't generated more chatter.

Does any body know who was the first team?

That brings up a good question. For those watching the ball games this summer - who has improved the most? For those of us who have to catch our games on TV - who will we be saying "is that the same kid from last year???"

The two most improved returning UC players in this year's DSL were Warren and Gentry. Last year, Warren showed he could get to the basket, but in the summer league he was getting there with impunity. Unfortunately, it's hard to gauge how that will translate to D1 play, since team defense is virtually nonexistent in the DSL.
Gentry shot the ball much better than he showed during last season. He showed no hint of the wrist injury he incurred in 2006. He's still not LaZelle Durden, though.

Here is the rub with Warren, his style of play is made for junior college and the summer league. He plays a run and gun style, it's when things slow down in the halfcourt where he seems to run into problems. I agree that he was very impressive in the DSL this year, however, I will take a wait and see approach when it comes to the actual season.
I didn't get to see Gentry much in the DSL, so I will take the word of others who have watched him play.
Finally, as a side note, I was remarking to someone that it always seems like Vaughn fires up at least one airball "3" a game. It is usually early in a game and seems like there is at least one in every game. Anyone else notice this?

Are you talking about the summer league? I don't recall him doing that last year.

I disagree. The game against Seton Hall directly refutes your point. Warren played the entire game, regulation and overtime, and had very few turnovers; without lokking it up, I think it was two (?). Seton Hall forced opponents into 20+ turnovers per game on average last season. Warren's game management was a huge factor in that win, he played slowly and within the game plan. I remember thinking that Cronin should have played slowly all season to benefit from Warren's apparent skill in that style of play.

I'm glad he's playing better. The competition at the guard spot is going to make this team so much better this year between - Vaughn, Warren, Gentry and Alvin Mitchell. Add in a few SF's that will be battling it out if Mick decides to employ a 3 guard offense.........you could have 3 -5 guys fighting for the 3 spot (either a guard or SF). In other words, if Vaughn and Warren start at guard, you'll see Gentry, Mitchell, Bishop, Wilks, Davis, and possibly others dueling it out for the remaining playing time.
It's a good thing, trust me.

I agree with your assessment that Warren's improvement is a good thing however I don't think there is a good position for him on the court. He will not be the starting point guard...Vaughn will be. He is not a good shooter and he's not a small forward. I think he will be great off the bench to give players a rest and to add a spark on D.

I think Warren can be a decent player in the BE as long as he's agressive. If he can be agressive both in halfcourt and the transition game, we'll be alright. I think it's his aggressiveness that makes or breaks him. (aggressive doesn't mean stupid).
