Very good.
With Deonta Vaughn firmly planted at PG, it will be hard to nab one of the top rated PG's in the class of '08. Holloway is somewhat of a sleeper and might fit the bill of what we're looking for at PG. Plus, he wouldn't expect to start right away and could develop and spell Deonta at times.
Gillenwater is a hard worker in the mould of Eric Hicks, but slightly taller.
I would be happy getting both of these guys.

there are not many programs who will be able to offer them scholorships together and playing time early. They seem to want to make an impact early and I think that has to bode well for UC.

What class (2008 or 2009) are both Gillenwater and Holloway listed on? I have not checked recruiting websites yet. Keep up with recruiting for best players, Mick! Go Bearcats!

His part starts a minute or 2 in. Great touch, big body, and from all I've heard is a really good kid.

He's a lot closer to 6-7 than anything else but he has a non-stop motor, long arms and gets by with great positioning and understanding of basketball. He isn't afraid to battle down low and has a good stroke out to the 3 point line. He likes Cincinnati quite a bit and will be prepping at Notre Dame next year (where Michael Beasley played last year).

He is a power forward with small forward skills, I would be willing too bet he could play in the post too, He looks 6-8 or 6-9 Do you guys think he is finished growing? He sounds like Damion Flint. He plays like KMart there

Have you ever seen him in person or seen him play? I don't see how you could compare him to Damon Flint or KMart at all. Not even close. He plays mostly in the post but has some skills to be able to play on the perimeter at times. If he's 6-9 then Deonta Vaughn is 6-1.

Marcus Sikes and Jamual Warren played a year at ND Prep in Massachusetts.

When i watched the video, The first thing i thought was, He sounded
like Damion the way he talked plus his first move towards the basket reminded me of Kenyon an he can shoot, thats a impressive young man if Mick signs him,
We will have Gates the power then bring this kid in. Belton too.

Where i grew up as far back as i remember, There was only one guy taller than 6-2 that played on our high school teams and that was Keith Starks
Do you remember him?

Dequan Jones is a nice player who the coaches have been recruiting for about a year. He will probably take an official visit in September or October and is the kind of deluxe athlete Bearcat fans are used to seeing on the roster.

Just FYI, its Damon not Damion. And to be honest, I dont see many parallels in Gillenwater's game compared to Flint or Martin. I think a more accurate assesment would be a poor man's (not dirt poor, just a little poor) Dontonio Wingfield. Not nearly as talented physically, but he seems to keep the motor running and has a very well rounded game. Also a much better head on his shoulders than Dontonio. By no means is the "poor man's" distinction a knock on Gillenwater, as Dontonio is (with the possible exception of D. Johnson) the most naturally gifted ball player we have had since....maybe even Oscar.

Keith Starks played for the Cats...4 yrs I believe. I'm pretty sure he was recruited by Yates and graduated the year before the final four. Left with Levertis and Lou Banks....Man were those 2 fun to watch!

Yes, you're right. I had him confused with Greg Stokes. But, yes, Starks went to UC.

So, what do you think our chances of landing him are? Is he really high on us? It would be a nice little class w/Holloway, Gillenwater, Jones, Gates and a big man.
Who are the big-man options at this point, seems like most big-time centers are gone in the '08 class?
Anyone dare to predict the odds of landing Dashan Harris, Phillip McDonald and Willie Warren?

Jones definitely likes UC because as has been mentioned quite a bit he was one of the first players the staff offered a scholarship to for 2008 last summer. Some bigger schools are there but unless UNC steps up with a schollie offer it's not a huge name school that has more to offer than UC. If UC gets him up for a visit the chances of him ending up at UC would improve quite a bit.
Hard to say right now where Harris and McDonald rank among the other PG and wing targets but both are nice players and could make official visits in the fall. Willie Warren is a crap shoot but if UC makes the list of 5 he plans on cutting down to in the near future they will get an official visit and if they can sell him on the idea of a 3 headed guard monster anything is possible. When it comes to Willie you just never know.
Big man targets, well Morgan is still a possibility despite the whole him not listing UC publicly. Gibson is off a bit now and he's not really a big man anyway. There are some foreign players being tossed about but nobody seems to know their names but this is where Larry Davis' international connections would come into play.

Morgan is NOT a realistic possibility for UC. I highly doubt Warren is, either.
Gibson has eliminated UC from his list.

The whole foreign big men thing would make sense since nobody else has UC listed. Unless Mick has someone up his sleeve, we're not being listed with any 6'10" or taller big men in the '08 class.
I'd love to have Gillenwater and Holloway. I don't see us getting Warren or J'Mison Morgan. I think we need to look at the second tier players.
I'd also love to have Dequan Jones.
PG Holloway, PF Gillenwater, SF Jones......added to PF Gates. You can never have too many PF's in my opinion. Plus alot of these guys make their games multi-faceted and can play other positions.

I think we need a big man for the '08 class even if we have to go the JUCO route. Gates doesn't want to play center in college and there are no scholly's available for the '09 class. So that leaves McClain as the only legit center for 2 years - '08 and '09. I guess the other option would be to play Belton at Center to give McClain a rest...
IKnowMoreThanYou

It's important to bear in mind that most Big East teams have only one legit center and very few have more than one. The only school I can think of that has two is UConn and nobody knows how good Mandelove is because he barely played last season. If you have one legit center and guys behind with him some size and bulk you should be okay. Cincy hasn't had a center sized player in quite some time so McClain will be a large upgrade and depending on how quickly he adjusts he could be an excellent player by his second year.

Yea, Cincy and Tennessee are his leaders, same with Cashmere Wright...it would seem whichever player gets Wright the other school will most likely get Holloway, it's a win-win situation

Mick and company have done a superior job of putting themselves in a position to land quality players, especially if they don't land their top choice they are still in good shape to land quality players on a similar level or a notch below.
Bearcat Fan Since 1958, I'll give you a chance to recant your statement about Cincy not having a shot at landing Morgan. They indeed have a good shot and should land a visit from the talented and slimmed down Texan.
