Per CBS Sports, Devan Downey is entering his name in the NBA Draft without hiring an agent to "test the waters".

He better have a life jacket.
Not many 5'8" guards in the NBA!

I give him credit for putting in his paperwork. I think all kids should learn the process their junior year so they are familiar with it their senior year. I don't think many see him going pro this year.

Agreed. Sad to say, but it's hard seeing him ever really logging significant time in the league. He just wasn't blessed with enough mass.
Could a 5'8" guy really improve his draft stock from now until next year?

That is a very good question.
It would be interested to see how many guys under 6' have been drafted.
If nothing else maybe he can get enough viability to get to some NBA camps next year, get his degree and maybe improve his Europe stock.

Only 14 — 3% — of the 412 players on NBA rosters are 6'-0" or under. In contrast, there are 45 players 7'-0" or taller and the average height for the league is 6'-7.25".

Honestly - there being 14 surprises me. I bet there are 2,3 his height.

I like Downey as an NBA prospect. He'll be one of, if not the quickest guys on the floor even at that level.
Put a bunch of talent around him and I believe he's a legit starting PG in the league.

Tiny Archibold (I am having a brain freeze so I hope this is the guy) was shorter and had a heck of a career. Yes, this was before the players became much taller.

Don't forget Spud Webb, Earl Boykins and Nate Washington.

....and Calvin Murphy.....more recently, I don't think Dana Barros was that tall, but Murphy was 5' 8" I believe.

Nate "Tiny" Archibald is one of, maybe the ONLY NBA player to lead in both scoring and assists the same year.

And #1 HS recruit in 1966 HS class. Was interested in UC but Tay Baker had never heard of him and didn't offer a scholarship. Averaged over 40 ppg in HS.

All of those little players could shoot from outside.
Not so much for Downey.
