Sacramento Kings co-owner Joe Maloof called Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin's hard foul of Spencer Hawes "thuggery" and demanded an apology for the incident in Monday night's game, The Sacramento Bee reported.

As Hawes was going up for a right-handed fast break dunk in the first quarter, Martin shoved him near the right armpit, knocking him to the ground.

Hawes remained on the floor for several minutes, clutching his left knee and conferring with Kings trainer Pete Youngman, before making two free throws and leaving the game. Martin, who has gained a reputation for aggressive, physical play, was assessed a flagrant-1 foul.

Maloof, speaking before an MRI revealed that Hawes had suffered a strained knee rather than a more serious injury, said Martin owed Hawes and his team an apology, according to the report.

"That was thuggery," Maloof said, "and you can quote me on that. Kenyon Martin wasn't trying to block the shot. He went right at Spencer when he was running full speed and at the [height] of his jump, when he was most vulnerable," according to the report.

"Completely unnecessary. The Nuggets might not want to hear this, but there was no excuse for that, and he [Martin] needs to apologize to Spencer and our organization. That just wasn't right," Maloof added, according to the Bee. When asked about the play, Martin shook his head and said it warranted a foul, not a flagrant 1, according to the report.

Hawes, however, felt the right call was made, the newspaper reported. "I saw the replay. It didn't look like he was anywhere near the ball," he said.

Fast forward to the 16 second mark...

I honestly don't see it being hard AT ALL!

He barely touched, the guys a wuss. Maloof needs to realize it's the NBA, not his kids little league games.

If Martin was going for the ball, he missed really badly. You don't have to hit someone hard for a flagrant 1 to be called.

The Maloofs (all of them) are financial thugs. Screw 'em.

Martin added a dig at Maloof, whose team finished with the worst record in the NBA this season at 17-65.

"If you don't know the circumstances -- he wasn't there, he wasn't in Denver -- then he should worry about his team getting better and getting out of last place," Martin said.

I miss when Kenyon was here and with the nets. Not a big fan of what he has done at Denver. Anyway, new article

The way I see it, it should be sorted out on the court. The next time Sacramento plays Denver they should lay the same type of hit on Kenyon.

If Kenyon doesn't like it, and is worried about taking a career ending cheap shot, then maybe he will think about not commtting them himself.

Problem solved: Kenyon quits doing it so that he himself is not a target, or he is put out of the league due to injury from a payback cheapshot.

That's the easiest way to handle it.

From the looks of the Youtube vid that is one of the weakest flagrant fouls I have ever seen. Seriously, stop crying.
