It hasn't been announced yet, but osu is expected to replace archie miller (Sean's brother who went to au with him) with jeff boals of Akron. Boals has a strong relationship with Adeien Payne and is a post player coach that could put the Buckeyes back in the Payne derby when they were thought to be out of it. Boals was instrumental in getting payne to visit akron so there is a history of his pull with payne. (Sorry for the spelling, etc on my phone)

I hate this trend. It should be a recruiting violation.

Is he the head coach? The reason Akron was getting bigger was because of Lebron James influence. He sponsors them and him and his Cleveland teammates play pickup games with all the players. Having Lebron support your program is huge.

Boals is associate head coach. At least this hire is semilegit opposed to hiring their dad or high school coach. I don't know if this would be any different than hiring Combs as a football coach, but I agree with you on the trend that is going on.

Conside Sullinger, a tO$U commit who is rated the top player in the class of 2010, is teammates with Payne on some AAU team. I imagine he likes the idea of playing along side Sullinger as it would make him more effective. Couple that with this hire and it is clear that Payne is a key target of tO$U.

More reason to try and get Tyus to transfer to UC.

This is getting out of hand with the hiring of relatives to get a top recruit. Some of these coaches will do anything to get an athlete. I think Memphis just offered a job to Xavier Henry's dad to get Henry to commit. A couple years ago USC had a commit and Urban Meyer offered his mother a job as a recruiting coordinator to try and reel him in. Even Huggins hired some random coach to get Beasley to go to Kansas State. They need to get a rule to put a stop to it.

Anyone have a solution to offer? Where do you draw the line? There will always be a relationship thread to any recruiting effort. Kind of a 3 or 4 degrees of separation thing.

If you were looking to hire a scout or an assistant head coach, wouldn't you want it to be someone who was closely connected to recruits?

If I was going to hire a salesman for my company, I would want it to be someone who was closely connected to my customers.

I don't disagree that many of these hires seem shady...just not sure where you draw the line.

It will only provoke a NCAA probation if UC does it.

Simple common sense dictates that you should not be able to hire relatives or coaches of a player that you are recruiting. However, since its common sense, it wont ever get addressed
