"...One of those new names came out tonight with the news that JUCO big man Orlando Allen visited UK yesterday and is considering the Cats. Allen is big, measured at around 6-11 and a bulky guy who can get after the boards. I personally have never seen Allen and it is unclear with the offers that he currently has on the table if he is a realistic option for the Cats at this point. IF UK offers (a substantial if) one might expect him to accept and it may be the case that UK waits to see info on guys like Zeller and Singleton before making a decision. But what the Allen visit does show is that there are names out there right now we havent even heard yet and that Billy Clyde will go JUCO (just as he did at Texas A&M) if he needs to...."

Orlando Allen is the local guy (either from Woodward or Withrow) that committed to Louis Orr at Seton Hall, then went Juco... From what I've read about him, He would fit into Billy G's system. He's a slow bulky grind it out post guy. Not going to run n' gun... Reading about him reminds me of BJ Grove...

I think Cronin is focused more on the HS players right now.

Players change (a lot) when they get in shape, gain stamina, and focus on basketball while keeping their grades up. Hopefully Allen will follow that path.

He's 6-11 and you can't teach or practice that.

No, you can't. But, we've had some other 6'11 guys who didn't do all that much....Grove being one of them.

I saw Allen play a couple times in the DSL. He was very unimpressive, including slow feet and a lack of hustle. Adam Hrycaniuk, his DSL teammate, outperformed him, both in ability and desire.

Mick can do better than waste a scholarship on such a juco.

Hardly a waste. Cronin may prefer others but he wouldn't use that word.

Allen has blossomed into a topnotch prospect. If Kentucky is after him, he's good. And his grades are reportedly much improved.

This kid can play. He's no BJ Grove. He is VERY athletic. I first saw him as a junior at Woodward. He dunked EVERYTHING! He worked at the stadium during Bengals games. I used to chat with him before every home game. Very nice, mannerable kid. Mick would be blessed to get him.

Few of the UC players this summer impressed observers but I'd bet they will be more impressive on the court this winter than they were in DSL games.

Agreed that none were overly impressive. However, some showed growth (J. Warren) and promise (A. Mitchell, M. Williams)
