View Full Version : What recruits are we looking at now?

The hot list of UC top 100 recruits sure has dwindled. Bost, Mitchell, Walker, Morgan, Woods, Gibson, Fortson.

Just who the heck is seriously looking at us any more. The top 100 talent that once was interested in UC seems to be disappearing fast. Is Warren or Miller even a hot prosepct or just listing us as a school of interest.

I hope Mick had a lot of contingency plans...actually I hope he had a lot of plans and the above kids were the contingency plans. For some reason I doubt this is true.

I am not as excited about 08' recruiting as I was back in the beginning of May when we were supposedly getting set to land a bunch of commitments.

Can anyone give me one really good rumor about 08' right now? Not a pie in the sky but something feasible.

There are at least a dozen UC targets still not committed to schools on the 2008 top 150. Almost all of the recruits you mentioned have verballed to other schools except for Fortson, Morgan and Gibson. Gibson doesn't seem like a serious option at this point in time. Contrary to what some people on this board say Morgan IS still interested in Cincinnati, Fortson is as well.

As for good news or a good rumor a certain PG in the top 100 is expected to unofficially visit UC this weekend and possibly make a decision not long after that.

I was just going too make a thread asking the same question.
Are there any J.C point guards out there for 08?

Iknow,

Thanks for the response. I am aware we have "targets". What I want to know is which targets are good targets. We can target every remaining top 150 recruit but that doesn't mean diddly unless they are targeting UC.

I want some good recruiting news because most of it has been rather bad lately. We have 4 more spots to fill in 08' but our best prospects seem to have left us hanging or we them. If Morgan, Warren, and Miller are still viable recruits then I am more than happy. I just haven't heard the gushing reports about their love for UC like Mitchell and Bost. Warren being perhaps a slight exception because he once was really high on UC.

No news is generally bad news in recruiting.

Good things come to those who wait. I'm fine with Mr. Gates and whoever else Mick brings in. Until he proves himself as a coach it will be hard to recruit the best players. We will be fine. If you really want news this bad, which is sad, then go to the pay websites and demand news from them. Just a suggestion.

Warren and Morgan are certainly in play and they aren't the only real targets in the top 150. Dequan Jones, Teondre Williams, Cashmere Wright, Courtney Fortson, Troy Gillenwater, Terrell Holloway, Chris Singleton still has UC on his list, Phillip McDonald might visit UC in the fall, these guys all have serious interest in UC. Most have already been on campus at least once too and others will be visiting. Don't go into panic mode for no reason.

I don't think wanting good recruiting news - any news is sad - its what I've come to expect from the guys at this site and is a common thread I think many of us share. I too have started to worry a little about the lack of good news - even a visit would make me feel better. I hope that certain PG does visit.

I think its just that we've seen Mick can recruit the big boys and so our expectations and hopes have been set. When there's a lull, that little voice in the back of your head starts whispering that maybe the 07 class is as good as it gets. I'm not saying I believe that, I'm just saying its there.

Thanks I know. I'm not in panic mode. Just looking to hear some good news of the variety we were hearing back in early May. I appreciate the reasurance.

MicksTheGuy,

I'm not sure good things (recruits) really come more on average to those that wait. On average they probably go to some that wait and some that are aggressive and some in the middle. I'm fine with Mr. Gates too...love this recruit...as for being fine with whoever else Mick brings in I will wait and see. I do have faith in him to continue recruiting well. I agree it is tough for Mick to recruit...never said he was doing a bad job...I think he has done fantastic! I'm sure we will be fine too.

As for your next statement...

I was not DEMANDING any information from anyone! I ALWAYS want good news for UC! If you think that is sad...well...no comment.

There is no Top 150 for 2008. The Rivals list is their opinion, not a fact.

No one said it was a fact. And can you answer one question for me; how exactly do you figure Mike Ryan's interest level is the best on the internet when he changed the interest of Cashmere Wright down to 2 not long ago based on info he got only to move it back up to 5 after several articles come out indicating he's coming to visit and is down to Tenn. and Cincy?

I reduced him because of grade concern rumors from a good source, but obviously had to bounce him back up when the new article said that Cincinnati was one of two on his list. Apparently the grade concern rumors were either taken care of or incorrect.

Sometimes I get it right - sometimes I get it wrong. But in this case, and in many cases there is not necessarily a 'right' or 'wrong' because recruiting is a process and in any process changes occur. One day Johnny Jumpshot may be in, next day he may be out because of new information.

I never built a file on Chris Singleton because I felt he would not be a Bearcat. The new article yesterday confirmed that when his new shorter list didnt include Cincinnati. Meanwhile, others said he was still looking at Cincinnati.

So they come and they go . . . . .

Because Mike Ryan knows UC basketball far better than any other Internet source.

I notice you said he knows UC basketball so I take it that it doesn't include UC recruiting because if it did I don't think you can say that with any kind of certainty. Recruiting is certainly not an exact science and you are bound somewhere along the line to hear info that turns out to be wrong and rumors can start that are flat out false. For example, the rumors of Wright having grade problems was a false rumor and it spread enough that Bearcat News heard it and lowered the interest level on Wright.

But now that other internet sites are reporting he's on campus his interest level goes back up to 5 and you look at as the best indicator of Cincy landing the kid?

Nobody's perfect, but I'll take Mike.

No offense, but with a screen name like yours and your track record of misinformation, you should perhaps avoid commenting on other's accuracy.

I thought we were all rooting for the same team here. I appreciate anyone and everyone who has information. I realize that sometimes the information may be accurate, and sometimes not. It's good reading either way.

I for one am happy that IKNOW.... is on this site. He's been right a large majority of the time on things and I'll take the right to wrong ratio he brings anyday. Mike Ryan and this site also do a fantastic job and the efforts are much appreciated by me and many others that I know. Keep up the good work........all around. I don't know what I'd do at work all day if I didn't have a place like this to escape to :D
