Not sure Joel Welser actually saw a Cats game last year, or necessarily knows much about the incoming recruits (other than stating that Mitchell is the most talented guard). Said "McClain is a polished low post scorer" and said that if Warren improves his outside shooting is our 2 guard option (actually labeled him a shooting guard!). I'm pretty sure that Warren would be my last choice at 2 guard (2nd choice at point) of any player under 6'5" on the team. To the first statement, from all I've heard McClain is the exact opposite of a polished scorer and as of now and relies mostly on put-backs (which is fine if he's getting the offensive boards).
Don't get me wrong, I understand they have to preivew 300 some odd teams, its just always comical some of the glaring misstatements that are made.

I really think warren ends up playing the point, unless vaughn has SIGNIFICANTLY improved his ballhandling

I would say the way he played in the DSL, Jamual Warren will be starting point guard, with Deonta Vaughn starting shooting guard, Vaughn back up point with Marvin Gentry
back up shooting guard and they will have Alvin Mitchell and Larry Davis.

Warren is the most improved player on the team, Mick will probley use him
coming of the bench in a more important role.

I REALLY hope that his DSL success translates into BEast success, but I am skeptical and forsee Vaugh at point w/ Gentry or Mitchell at 2. Warren will def. see minutes but....

I agree about these previews. I read multiple magazines every year and very rarely do they know what they're talking about.

As for Warren, I surely hope he is vastly improved his game, but I will believe it when I see it in a Big East game.

I also heard plenty of negative comments about this review.

The only negative comment i have about this review is the part about Deonta Vaughn having a decent freshman campain, If i remember Vaughn was first team all big east rookie, second in the vote count, plus this team will make the big show they are loaded.
Does everybody agree with my statements?

I'd be thrilled to be in the dance.

It will be interesting to see if we are loaded. This team has a lot of new players so it is hard to really gauge how strong of team they will or can be.

There is a lot of room for hope. In recent years, teams with young players have succeeded (UNC, U Fla). Still, I don't think our young players are of that caliber and they are not being added to a strong nucleus.

It will be exciting to see how it plays out!

Go Cats!

Vaughn was one of 11 on the Big East All-Rookie Team, there was no first or second team. Three players on that team were unanimous selections, and Vaughn wasn't one of them. The team should be much improved this year based on incoming talent and experience, but I don't think they're a lock for the dance; remember they're playing the Big East.

My (reasonable) expectation this year is a winning record and a spot in BE tournament. Post season play (NCAA or NIT) would be icing on the cake.

Nerf,

I think you are right. I think we're much better than last year, but don't think we'll make the jump up to the dance in 1 year. Winning record and BE tourney and we've met expectations - NIT we've exceeded and NCAA - well, Mick is walkin on water.

I think it is incredible how much better this years team will be then last. Not only is there a pretty good incoming freshman class, but just adding Adam H. and Mike W. alone will vastly improve the team. I'm not saying they will make it to the NCAA but they should make it to the Big East and hopefully the NIT. IMO, it all depends on how good the freshman really are and how quickly they develop. Also, hopefully the case of Juco's needing a year to really solidify their game holds true.

I'm one of the few who actually think they over achieved last year (not by much, but...). They were lacking so much in height and depth last year that in the Big East, if you don't have both you can barely compete. This year they should have both.

The team last year was fully capable of .500 record but gave away a few games. It won a couple unexpectedly but 15 W should have been achieved.

20 W is the target this year. And postseason play.

Sure they were fully capable of a .500 record, but that doesn't mean it was expected, at least not from me. When Adam H. and Hall were ruled ineligible, it destroyed almost all chances of being competitive.

Not so - the team was competitive in most every game. But it lost a few that it might easily have won. 15 W was definitely achievable for the 2007 Cats.

11-19 was disappointing to me.
