"FERPA is the reason the University of Cincinnati said it blacked out every word of an NCAA infraction involving members of its men's basketball team between 2002 and 2004, during Bob Huggins' tenure as coach."
I don't seem to remember any violations (at least publicly communicated) back then. Any insight?

There was none in that timeframe. The C-D writer got the dates wrong. It was late 1990's instead.

Even if he was wrong it would do damage to the Department to write him and correct him. If he was right after all then we some additional infractions answer for.

The NCAA major infractions database (Google it) lists all such things.
UC has 5 listed - Jan 56, Apr 59, Dec 78, Nov 88, Nov 98. NONE in mid-2000's.
He is NOT right.

You all are missing the point of this article which is this. Colleges are hiding behind FERPA to avoid reporting details on a variety of activities including NCAA violations. The mention of UC and Huggins makes up one small paragraph in a 3 page multi-column article.

I get the point Keith but am curious as to whether this journalist has his facts straight.

That is what the article is about though...the school does not have to report the infractions based on the FERPA language, and can conceal it from reaching the public.

Baloney. There were none in the 2000's timeframe.
This (formerly great) website has become a pathetic shell of its former self.

Why? Becaues you do not want to believe there could have been any infractions? I am not saying anything happened, I am simply stating that the article said that schools did not have to report them, and that is their basis for the early 2000's claim. Everyone breaks the rules in college basketball. Its the slimiest sport next to boxing. Get over it.
Also if your "pathetic shell" comment is directed at me, I don't post a whole lot here, but I have been on here dating back to the "email message board" and can guarantee I have been around here longer than 98% of the people on here, and probably longer than you.

Second part first. No, it wasn't. But BN website is what I said it has become.
First part next, it's NONSENSE to infer that UC may have incurred NCAA rules violations in the mid 2000's but didn't have to report them to NCAA. Sheer, utter nonsense.

I think you are misinterpreting what the article is saying. I believe the article is saying that the UC violated rules in the early 200'0s, but due to protection by FERPA, was able to keep the infractions private, without the player's names or the school being released to the media.

No - the NCAA releases all such rules violations.
So it's false. UC violated no rules in the 2000's.

So the Dispatch requested records from all 119 FBS teams, and they wanted to "get" UC, and completely made up a lie, just to tarnish the record of a coach who has been gone for 4 years, and is already at another university? UC isn't even a rival of Ohio State's anymore. There is no reason to target them.
Why is it so hard to accept that UC could have broken a rule between 02-04? It could be extremely minor. Who knows? Why is it so hard for you to believe?
