Hope it stays that ways. If he flies under the radar we get a steal. And he's already committed.

Lets hope Chane gets better, he looked like a deer in the headlights against Princton this year.

I disagree. Aiken's guards couldn't get him the rock. I didn't see fear, I saw a frustrated "MAN CHILD"

Being a Princeton man myself, If he was a deer in the headlights, it's time to rachet up the recuitment on Jordan Sibert.

Again, not to take anything away from ESPN, but when it comes to high school recruiting, I do not put much faith at all in any of their rankings.
The fact that they are releasing rankings before the AAU season is truly in its full swing says it all (for me at least), and the fact they go heavily off of "scout.com" whom I don't have the greatest of faith in says a lot (again, in my opinion).
Also, I will be absolutely floored the day that I believe Chane was a deer in the headlights in any game he has ever played in, or ever will play in. Aiken was unable to feed him down low and was content with perimeter play (IMO) and Chane was more "visibly frustrated" than scared.

He may not be listed in the top 60 currently but this is what ESPN has to say about him and they gave him a grade of 93. Most other recruiting sites have him listed as a 4 star recruit, so whether he is top 60 I don't know but your getting a 4 star recruit with a lot of potential.

I tried telling everybody awhile back that he was going to fall to a boarder level top 100 player. Of course that didn't go well- either way, as long as he can defend, board and get hustle I will be happy with him.

Not concerned. Rankings are just someones opinion of what they will become. Not to mention the kid is about to be a JUNIOR. Way to young to predict his college impact.

Chane will be a top 25 recruit in 2011. If he is not then I will put even less stock into rivals, scout and the rest of the recruiting sites and I don't take them serious now. After the top 10 players, they are clueless. They take names and opinions from people when they have not evaluated the players themselves. Chane might even move into the top 10 for that class. This is not me being positive it is me being realistic.
Adrien Payne is currently a top 10 player for 2010. He should probably be somewhere in the top 50 based on potential but not top 10 or 50 based on what he has done to this point in high school. He has been pimped out by some people, chane has not yet.

I really hope chane can grow 2 inches and get to 6'9...if he can get there, he should shoot up the rankings, how tall was yancy as a sophmore in high school?

The first time I met Yancy face to face was right before his junior year and he was about 6'7 at the time.
Chane could possibly get to be 6'9 or so, but the thing that will keep him near the top of the rankings will be his innate strength, high motor and competitive nature.
Again, I can not stress that (in my opinion) ESPN has the worst ranking system there is when it comes to players since it is based off of scout.com who (again, in my opinion) are awful.
The reality is, anyone who has seen Chane play will tell you that he is a beast and will be a very good (borderline great) high school player and will most likely be the same once he gets to UC.

is chane 6'7 or 6'6? I hear he might convert to a wing but he seems too bulky for a wing

Chane scored 93 points by ESPN. That (93) is Top 60 number so he's close.

I do not think at this point Chane is too bulky to play a 3. He has a great build but is really not that big, at least for college. I would love him to gwo though. He is not a 3 at all.
I have been next to him a few times and he is probably around 6'7 at the most. He was about 3-4 inches taller than me. I could see him growing more just because of his age and he could easily put more weight on his frame. He has a very freakish body, just very lean and mostly muscle.

He is only half way done with his high school career.
He will get better before his high school days are behind him.

People put way too much stock in recruiting rankings. I am just happy that Mick got Chane to commit so early. I could care less if he is a Top 25 or Top 150 recruit. Either way, we know we are getting one helluva player and any basketball fan that has seen him play will tell you he is very good and will only get better.

Did any of you even watch Chane play this year? His team was so much improved that it seemed they forgot he was on the floor offensively. His numbers may have gone down, but he's still playing just as well IMO if not better. There are a few other sophs that are D1 prospects on Aiken and some upper classmen jumped in and played well. I went to 3 games and all 3 the guard play failed to get the ball into Chane, but he still was able to get 10-20 points while playing VERY solid defense and rebounding well.

gates rankings dropped when he committed to uc also. it's just where the program is out right now.
from what i remember reading about the aiken-princeton game, princeton threw their entire defense at behanon, but he played smart, didn't force things. to me, that is pretty impressive for such a young ball player to realize you can not force it, that is what your teammates are for.

Gates ranking did drop from his Junior to Senior year in High School but I think it had to do more with his play on the court then it did then the fact that he committed to UC. If you remember there were a lot of people that thought he disappered in games his freshman year that he didn't have the killer instinct, and I'm pretty sure that was the reason he dropped in the rankings.

yea, that is true. and i guess we saw that sometimes as a bearcat to. but i think if he'd been a commit for a "name" program, his ranking would not have fallen off so much.
point being, i'm not at all worried about behanan because his ranking dropped.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. By Rivals, when he committed to UC he was a 4 star recruit, after the derby game, he went to a 5 star, and number 22 of the top 150 if I remember right.
He jumped from a 4 star to a 5 star.

There was a ranking in between that initial and final one where he dropped from like 32 all the way down to like 79. He moved up for the final Rivals ranking. Shows you how silly rankings really are.

I agree.
Silly to get all caught up in a star ranking. Saying a player won't be good because he was a 3 star, or saying a player that has 5 stars will win you a title is a little crazy, imo.

So if this is true how did he go from Rivals 4 to Rivals 5 star after we recruited him?

I'm not sure why there is such mystery and confusion as to Gates' Rivals ranking right now... the Rivals guys are very good about answering ranking questions in their mailbag as honestly as possible and Gates was a topic in one of them... Jerry Meyer flat out said they had questions about his passion and effort but during his senior season he showed them enough to put his ranking where they thought he could be because of his physical gifts... I think his performance against BJ Mullens and then the one in the Derby helped immensely too...

Just an FYI for those people who have brought up the Princeton game about Chane.
Chane also happened to have a 103 degree temperature that game WITH the flu...and still made it out on to the court.
I know I couldn't have...

Likely will never happen. Yancy will not be around here his senior year.
