With the signing of Cashmere Wright U.C. has filled a major void for next season. Cash will back up Vaughn with Davis playing the combo role and it will give them some flexibility in their backcourt rotations. Hopefully they still sign a high quality pure shooter at SG too. When Cashmere was in town there was a rumor that a big man was on campus that weekend too. Does anyone know if that's true? Our biggest need for next season is another Center. Williams returns next season and along with Gates gives us depth at the 4 spot. I believe SF would be the next area of priority and then the 2 guard. Are there any visits on the horizon?

I wonder if that big man was Laron Dendy the forward who also decommitted from clemson too that would be pretty big if UC could snag him too even though hes a power forward he's got some size

I would say center is the number one need now, Cause McClain could be a
superstar freshman, Or it could take him three years too develop, Mick might
need some j.c center help for08, Then Belton could, might step into
that role. plus another Alvin Mitchell type -2-3 guy (Warren)

Heres how it would look>
center 1
PF- Gates
SG- 1 (6-4-6-6)
PG- Wright

Then for o9
i would try too find KirklandWhite

I have no particular insight. UC has had transfers in/out of the program ever since I followed the team 50 years ago. I doubt it will be any different now.

Now that we're able to recruit a higher ratio of quality kids (character), I think our churn will be lower.

Churn has been there for 50 years. Not much different in the next 10 years.

Hopefully Mick Cronin has learned to stay away from the Donald Littles and BJ Groves that he recruited to UC in the late 1990's.

He could only recruit what TCFEBUC would let him.

I thought the same thing when I read the post, but figured I'd give 58 the benefit of the doubt and infer that he is hoping that Mick has learned from TCFEBUC's mistakes and will not give the same type of directives to his staff.

Getting back to the topic of this thread, with 3 scholly's left and September rapidly approaching, I would think that there would be some more news shortly, anyone know of anything imminent that they can speak on.

I also took a look at Laron Dendy's profile and feel that he would be a good backup option if we can not land a top center. I really feel like we need another big, big meaning tall in this case and Dendy seems to fit, they have him listed as 6'9" on Rivals and a 4-star, #58 overall. I see that he lists us as a possible destination, but Mike has not started a file on him yet. I wonder if there is any relationship between him and Wright, being from the same area of the country and both being Clemson decommitts.

Mick recruited both players to UC - he was chief recruiter at UC then.

Both coaches have learned from mistakes but both will still make some.

Laron Dendy would be a good combo low post player, but for '08 they need another true center. However, if they cannot get a good one, i.e. one who can contribute, I believe you go after the best available low post player who can at least come in and rebound and play defense. My guess is Mick will go the J.C. route for a more physically mature (physically) guy. I would love to land a McDonald or Warren, but would be happy with Dulkys or T. Williams as well. Dulkys is a pure shooter with good basketball sense. The small forward is less important to me unless you bring in a HOSS!! We have Wilks, Bishop, and Mitchell can play the 3 as well. I believe both Wilks and Bishop will be very good with some seasoning and improved strength.

Dequan Jones is a stud who I would love to see us get, there are few if any players that can match his athleticism. He has all the tools to be a future NBA SG, especially when he steadies his jumper, which has already drastically improved over the summer. Between him and Wilks we would have the two best athletes in the BE, I even can't imagine the highlight reels this team could make with those two players and Gates. Laron Dendy is also another high flier who can throw it down.

Can you give any insight into our chances of landing these two or are you just hoping (like I am) that Mick is in with them good. Thanks.

We were the leader for Dequan Jones at one point but once he exploded a lot of other schools started to get in the mix. He hasn't really trimmed his list down to 5 schools yet but I expect we'll get a visit in the upcoming months, possibly Midnight Madness. Laron Dendy mentioned us with about 6 or 7 other schools...although Cash Wright committing should boost his interest.

There are two player types that I think would just about wrap up everything that we need in 08'. I think it would give us the option of holding a scholly for 09'.

Player type #1 is a C/PF. Basically a low post player who can bang down low, rebound, and make put backs. Someone who can take the defense away from Williams, Gates, and/or McElroy in 09'. It would be great if this person were about 6'10" or so. (Morgan would have been perfect). We already have Biggie who may need to develop a little and who will need back up support. I'm not sure how Belton is going to be used just yet or if he is tall and athletic enough to alter the shots of Beast centers. I think we know he can bang. Foreign players are fine by me at this position if we can't find someone in the US.

Player type #2 is a SF who can shoot. A versatile SF like A. Mitchell who could play SG if need be. This would eliminate the need for another SG (which I don't think we need anyway with Mitchell, Davis, Miller). Someone around 6'5" to 6'7" who can shoot and handle the rock. D. Jones comes to mind although T. Mitchell and D. Miller would have fit here. We have Wilks and Bishop but could always use another stud here...especially one that can shoot accurately from the three point line.

If we could get a solid top 100 talent guy at each of these positions above I think we could hold the final scholly for 09' unless we could get a real stud like Warren to top it off. If we don't we can hold the scholly and evaluate the roster after 08' and find out where we need the most help in 09'.

Good assessment and I agree. Phillip McDonald would fit the SF/SG role also if he is a full 6-5 as some publications have him listed.

In essence if we could recruit an awesome shooter it would open up Mitchell to move to SF. That would also take care of the situation. I would rather have another versatile SF who can play SG than just getting an SG to move Mitchell to SF. Getting McDonald would certainly not hurt especially if he is 6'5" and can play the 3 as well as the 2.
