There's two other non-conference games that I can't remember or haven't heard yet.

Nov. 18 vs. Toledo
Nov. 23 Maui/Vanderbilt
Nov. 24 Maui/TBD
Nov. 25 Maui/TBD
Dec. 10 vs. Miami (OH)
Dec. 13 @ Xavier
Dec. 16 @ UAB
Dec. 19 vs. Lipscomb
Dec. 22 vs. Winthrop
Dec. 26 vs. CS Bakersfield

Last I heard, the difficulty is that some of our conference foes share an arena with NBA teams. The non-conference schedule is pretty much set, just awaiting finalization of the conference schedule for exact dates/times.

That game should help our SOS. Lance can outscore that team by himself. Maybe DV too.

Believe it or not, we actually have a decent non-con this year.

@UAB, Vandy, Maui/TBD, Maui/TBD, Xavier (OH) and Miami (OH).

Those 3 Maui games could very well be against NCAA teams and 2 will be ranked inside the top 25 (if not 3).

Xavier will "most likely" be ranked in the top 25.

That's the possibility (and strong liklihood) that 4 of our 14 (or so) non-conference games are against ranked opponents. That isn't too shabby considering we're an unranked team.

It's not like we're Syracuse. The 'Cuse rarely plays more than one or two away games in the non-con, and those are against pushovers. Also, the 'Cuse hardly ever play any teams ranked in the top 25 before the start of BigEast play.

Yeah I have, along with others..and i understand thats a part of NCAA bball..and that SOS will drop down to the lower teens by Feb.just because of conf. play and We all know alot of teams just wont play us OOC.But,there are alot who will! The only thing i hate about college hoops is there are guaranteed wins.....

Does anyone know if Fox 19 is picking up any games this year?

That should be no worse than 10-2, plus a 10-8 or better Big East run = is a solid 20-win year but we'll need some big victories in conference if we can't win Maui and lose to maybe Xavier.

I think the overall strength of schedule is right about where it should be for a Big East team. Unfortunately ALL the decent games are road games. I'll be there to watch the Cats roll over Lipscomb and Texas Southern but good luck selling tickets to the normal fan. I'm sure the home games in the Big East schedule will make up for it but it's depressing to not have 1 meaningful home game before Jan.

bearcatbret
09-02-2009, 04:36 PM
This is a much different team this year. We have a couple of players who could take over the entire game by themselves. I think we win the ones that we should and I hope that we win the ones that are borderline (x of ohio, etc.)

Scheids21

Winthrop is no longer a sleeper. They have proven over the last few years that they are consistent winner. If UC overlooks them, that is a bad sign.

09-02-2009, 04:48 PM
Thats a pretty weak schedule, IMO. Lets be honest guys, we could potentially not face a single Top 25 team. Vandy and Maryland are middle of the pack to bottom half teams in their conference. X is the strongest game and their a borderline top 25 team. Someone please convince me why this isn't cupcake city.

From Lance's blog on the schedule:

UC non-conference schedule breakdown
Opponent, record last year and RPI
Prairie View AM 13-16 (274)
Toledo 6-25 (317)
Texas Southern 7-25 (323)
Miami 17-13 (80) at US Bank Arena
at Xavier 25-7 (17)
at UAB 22-11 (46)
Lipscomb 15-14 (236)
Winthrop 10-19 (255)
Cal St Bakerfield 8-20 (302)
Maui Invitational includes: Vandy 19-12 (95), then Maryland or Chaminade, and then Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin or Gonzaga

Home schedule should be easy wins - tougher games on the road. Maui invite is a strong test.

BearcatRob33
09-02-2009, 05:03 PM
Seriously? The game against Miami is being played at US Bank Arena again? I figured since UC will be going to Oxford, the game would now be played in the shoe (since the way it was before, playing at US Bank Arena was considered to be neutral). That's disheartening.

That's not a bad schedule considering where we are in our development. That gives us a legitimate chance to get 20+ wins and an NCAA Tournament berth. Cincinnati has to beat Vanderbilt so we can get a crack at Maryland. The ideal situation would be to beat Vandy and Maryland and get a chance to beat Arizona or Gonzaga.

Middle of the pack or not, Maryland won 21 games and lost in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. That is a pretty good team in my eyes. Vandy won 19 games last year. And that one year after winning 26 games and being a #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. As for Xavier being a borderline Top 25 team they're coming off a Sweet 16 appearance and the year before that and Elite Eight run. Heck, not only does most places have Xavier in their Top 25 a lot of people have them in their Top 20, and some even in the Top 15 knocking on the door of the Top 10 (Fox has them at #11) I don't know why people have to exaggerate things just to try and prove a schedule is weak.

Winning 21 games does not impress me one bit when teams play 31+ games a year.

While overall the OOS may not look that bad...it certainly looks like a big pile of dung to a season ticket holder.

Not 1 solid home game.

The conference season will make up for that though I guess.

Looking at the schedule again there are some serious RPI killer games on there. Prairie View, Toledo, Texas Southern, Lipscomb, Winthrop, and Cal St. Bakersfield will most likely all be 200 RPI or worse. I can see playing a few of those walk through games but 6 is terrible.

I agree with this. The thing that the prior coach was able to do was schedule the cupcake games with an eye towards maintaining a solid strength of schedule. When you looked at those schedules, it was easy for people to say it was weak, but the computers liked it because the weak teams were ones that played strong schedules and did well enough in their conferences to have decent RPI's. Six teams with RPI's above 200 (per last years RPI) will hurt our overall strength of schedule, and hurt with seeding somewhat (assuming a trip to the NCAA's).

Hey Zahid,
Yeah, on usenet Jon and Keith and myself would really
yank on those guys, there was some pretty good threads
all in fun. In a way it was kind of funny because those
other posters from other schools "really" didn't like UC
and Huggs much.

But without UC and Huggins too hate they didn't have much of
a newsgroup. Every now and then Keith would venture off to the
rec.sport.basketball.college and really rile them up, of course I was
the main antagonist in there. Good times. I don't post in there anymore
but I read it every now and then and someone posted just recently that
they longed for the days of me and some of the UK/Duke/UNC posters going
at it because the group isn't nothing like it used to be.

Maybe Mick can bring the program back to what it used to be, but until
then it isn't worth posting in there. Maybe one day it will.

There really is not an easy opening game in the BEast... just some easier than others. I do agree though... It will be a good gauge of where we are opening up against them. They should be a bit easier to beat compared to last year which is cool!
