I love it that the football posts are outnumbering the basketball posts many times over.

I've always hoped that's how it would be at UC. All summer, looking forward to FOOTBALL!!!, then as soon as basketball drew close, looking forward to BASKETBALL!!!. And be just that enthusiastic for both!
I need to go buy my jerseys!

32 days is many football games away. Stay focused in the here and now and quit dreaming about the future.
I am excited about b-ball, but not at the sake of football.
Speaking of keeping Miami on the schedule, are we past playing them in B-ball? I don't think so. There's more flexibility in a b-ball schedule and they consistently have decent teams.

My enjoyment of the game of football is only about 10% of my enjoyment of the game of basketball, so I am still anticipating basketball.
Miami - ...plus in football, there are fewer games per season, so your choices have to be smarter. In basketball Miami is one of 30 games. In football its one of 12.

Speaking of practice, anyone got anything on how they have looked in the offseason? Is Wilks adding weight? Is Adam H still the starting center or has McClain impressed enough to overtake him? Any other things developing?
Also any other news developing on the recruiting front? New names? Updates on old names (T. Williams, Morgan, etc.)? Still looking at using all 3 scholly's this year as opposed to holding one back?

I am saving my excitement as long as the UC football is not in the "losing season" mode. When it gets into the losing season, the incoming new UC basketball season will get me excited.
I love the whole Bearcat sports!
Go BEARCATS!

It's not an either/or for me. I'm absorbed in supporting the fb team, as I hope every true UC fan is, while at the same time looking forward to bb.
Here's the difference between bb and fb. First, the same dynamic was at work: Huggins didn't want to risk losing up there anymore than Kelly does, so he broke decades of tradition and stopped playing MU. But he was able to resume it by getting MU to agree to play the games downtown, a so called neutral floor. The difference is PBS with its 65000 seats doesn't make a good neutral site for this game. A typical crowd of 25000 would get lost in it. The other thing is, it was easier for huggs to justify the change because of the new level he'd taken us to, a level clearly above MU. We're not there yet in fb, BCS notwithstanding.

I hope UC can always play XU, Miami OH, and even Dayton. Those games are traditional rivalries going back a long time.

I dont' have a problem playing teams like that in basketball, but I do in football. There are just a few more basketball games.

I don't understand why any promoter in their right mind wouldn't move the Crosstown Shootout to the Coliseum and make more money on the sale of seats?
Put it on a neutral court like the Miami game. This home and home stuff is stupid. They could make alot more money on the game if they had a bigger arena to play it in. Also, throw away this home court garbage and see who the better team is without the one sided crowds. After all, they are just an A-10 team and we're now in the Big East and will be atop it in the near future.

Eggs-avier sucks. When the wind blows from the West we can smell that wretched stench all the way in NJ. They are irrelevant. Merely taking the court with them legitamizes them. Why do it? I'd rather have our "rivarly" game(s) be Loserville. As for basketball, I enjoy beating Miami and Dayton, but I don't want to be near that smelly carcas of a "school" (or whatever they call it) in Norwood...

To answer the original question...
I'll start getting excited when the first regular season game nears. Right now, there is football and lots of it.

So certain people have lost any excitement for football only 2 games into the season??? Is there any wonder why we can't sell out our home games?? For as big a football city as this is, it is amazing that we have an up-and-coming BCS program that gets treated like a red-headed stepchild.

I moved the football related posts on this thread (which all seemed to discuss the upcoming Miami game) to the active "Should UC be playing Miami H/H" thread on the football forum. The link to that thread is below:

Um, no, not really - with no games, no practice and a dead recruiting season since cashmere, I'm totally psyched on the football team and really don't think much about basketball....I'll get geeked in about a month, though.

Yeah, the football team is doin' well, which is great... but I still wanna know about the basketball team.... this is a VERY exciting year! Last year was BRUTAL.. and now we actually have some REAL basketball players.. depth, size, scoring... anyone got any info about Hyrcaniuk? He is most likely going to be our starting center.. 6-10 240 lb senior.. but we've seen no video or even any pictures of him? Anyone have ANYTHING about this Polish monster?
