How was the first practice on Saturday? There was zero fanfare. I suspect all players were on the court since they were cleared to practice. But regardless, how did the new guys look (Cash, Lance, Sean, Parker, Thomas)?

There is also an open practice the day of Halloweeen.
I like that they are going about business without the wasted day.

I'm also glad they didn't make a huge deal out of it this year. The last few years they tried to have a fan-friendly event and no one showed up. I'm probably in the minority, but I never have really liked all the midnight madness stuff. give me a real game and I'm much happier.

That's fair, but at places like UK, KU, MSU, UNC, etc- the events are huge and are outstanding recruiting tools. It would be nice if we had the same type of advantage with recruits here.

This is a solid point to consider. With guy's like LS signing up, ESPN would surely be on site for it and increase our exposure. I would have to think that recruits would like it too.
Personally, I liked Midnight madness and would welcome it back. I always attended them and it was a tradition that I lost. No one should right it off all together. Hopefully success and demand can bring it back one day.

No I'd never argue that it isn't a great recruiting tool. I actually think the Bobo Morgan recruitment got derailed at the terrible turnout 2 years ago. Who wouldn't want 10,000 fans screaming "we want you"??

I seem to remember some pretty big midnight madness events back in the 90's. Didn't Vitale attend one where some kid hit a half court shot for tuition or something like that? Does anyone remember how many folks would come out for those back in the day?

That was the game when Vitale said that he would pay for the kids books too! He tried to weasel out of it but eventually caved into pressure and paid up.

If I remember correctly it was more about Vitale not being able to track the kid down not that he tried to run out on it.

You are correct. Vitale never tried to "weasel his way out of it." It was a poor set up in that nobody had any way to reach the kid. I am sure Vitale and ESPN never thought it would actually happen and probably didn't do due diligence prior to the shot.

this is why we need midnight madness. teenagers love this stuff like this...imagine being a recruit and visiting a school at midnight madness, and seeing a freshman get an introduction like this. this is awesome, and this is why UK's midnight madness is hands down amongst the best.

UK also has a ridiculous fan-base that they can charge for admission to midnight madness.

But they don't. MM tickets are free (first come, first served) at UK.

I was misinformed then. A friend of mine who is a UK fan told me that.

What do they really have to compete with? There aren't many places more devoid of entertainment options than Lexington.
