Syracuse up on Louisville 21-7 at the half...now that would be an upset and bode well for UC in the standings

Wow, Syracuse is terrible too.

I am sorry but there would be no excuse at all for losing to Syracuse. The Orange are a bad football team. I think Louisville will make a comeback and pull this one out in the 2nd half.

Q: What do the Bengals and Louisville have in common?
A: Both teams have defenses that can make even the most inept offensive team look like "basketball on grass"
I just checked the live box score and Syracuse has almost 300 yards passing and four TDs. Coming into this game, Syracuse had scored a total of 3 TDs in 3 games.
Three of the TDs are on pass plays of 42, 60 and 79 yards. OUCH! I wonder if the defensive coordinators for Michigan and Louisville are comparing notes?

38-21 Syracuse leads with 6 minutes left in 4Q.

Louisville loses, 38 - 35. Say bye-bye to their ranking. From top 10 two weeks ago to unranked. Offense is fun to watch but defense wins championships. And right now, Louisville has none.

This could cut different ways. It could help us move up in the rankings, which mean very little this early. What concerns me is the game at Syracuse doesn't look like a cinch anymore. UL's D is definitely poor, but Syracuse's passing attack looked pretty good, and unlike the last 2 years, they don't look like they're about to give up on their season. Syracuse may not have been as bad as their record indicated -- it may have been more a matter of over scheduling. They didn't exactly open with cupcakes. But what an upset.

We'll find out a lot more about Syracuse next week when they play Miami (OH) Redhawks.
I'm still not worried about UC vs Syracuse though.

Iowa 35, Syracuse 0 - that was Syracuse's best defensive effort of the season.
Illinois 41, Syracuse 20.
Washington 42, Syracuse 12.
UW and Iowa are mediocre, Illinois is terrible. Syracuse has given up 153 points in 4 games. They are not going to be a problem.

I know those teams aren't great guns, Woundwort, but they're better than the lower level teams most BCS programs open with. And I wouldn't be so sure that Syracuse team is the one UL saw today. Syracuse does have players, I guarantee you. And when they come to play in the Dome, they can make it rough. They'll get a huge lift from this win. But our game's a long way off, and we'll see what happens in the meantime. UL's D is bad, no argument there, and I don't think they came to play today.
