The last I heard he was going to make his decision at the end of summer. I saw him play a couple of times, he is physically awesome. He has a lot of basketball talent but seems that he needs some coaching. Someone to tell him no every once in a while. While I believe we have the inside track on McClain, and if we get Yancy we will have the players to compete in the Big East. Does anybody have any info on Gates, where he may go, are we the front runners, or just thoughts.

I really don't think he'd end up waiting till the end of the summer but I know Georgetown is also on his list. We appear to be in good shape with Gates but his camp has been mum on his recruitment since something popped up about his list that his stepfather didn't like.

I think that signing Gates is very important. The hallmark of any great program is the ability to keep local kids at home. If Mick can land Gates, it will set a nice precedent for recruiting the top cincy area players.

Gates may very well be headed to West Virginia to play for Bob Huggins, Fox is reporting the West Virginia job is Huggins for the taking.

I think that symbolically, it is very important that Cronin signs Gates. One of the hallmarks of any great program is the ability to keep local kids. If the Cats sign Gates, that will go a long way towards setting a precedent of keeping Cincy area kids at home.

I really don't think Huggins is going to West Virginia because he has too much stock in K-State. I loved him but its time to forget about him and focus on Mick and our program. For anybody to say that he can't recruit to Manhatten is not looking at the situation. He recruited kids to Clifton and C-USA for years. People go to play for Huggins, not for Manhatten. I am under the belief that Gates is an incredable athlete but an average ball player. It is crucial for Mick to get a 5-star recruit from Cincinnati. We have all heard about Mick the great recruiter and now it is time to see results!

That's what I thought, but apparently we will see a Mick Cronin vs Bob Huggins next year!!!

Gates has dropped down to a 4 star mainly due to his rumored work ethic. great1 - you do know that KSU has had a press conference naming him HC.

Yeah, I feel like a horses rear end. I actually posted that this mourning when Gates was a 5-star (funny how he lost so much ability sense the mourning! jk) and Huggins to WVU was still a rumor. So I could not have been more wrong his mourning. Of coarse I thought 02' Nebreska football would dominate Miami FL for the football national title and said Andruw Jones was over-rated then he proceeded to have a MVP type season and in that game hit 2 bombs and robbed a home run. SO I have been wrong before and will be again.

Sorry - I didn't realize when that post was made. I don't know what Rivals has him as or Scout, inc. (ESPN) has him at.
