Funny enough...Vitale has been dog **** for quite a while now, too.

Just surprised he did not list UNC and Duke as #1 or #2. He has been the freak ACC fan for a long time.

I can't really complain about any ranking this preseason. I think this will not only be a good team, but a very good one. However, ranking are largely based on the past. Especially preseason. This team has talent but hasn't proven anything yet. Let's earn it and they won't be able to take it away from us.

Its easy on the first few picks. What makes someone more credible is the later picks and he loses some here. That is ridiculous that UC is not in his top 40.

We havent proven much. Yeah I think we are a top 40 team but someone not ranking us there isnt so outrageous considering we have done nothing yet. Skys the limit on potential...

Once Lance is eligible it is over. This is not going to be just a good team. The sky is the limit for this team. Go Bearcats

Like it or not, Vitale knows more about basketball than anyone on here, plus he is a master showman to boot, and with the exception of Duke, I don't think he plays favorites. If you listen to him in game situations, he plays up most every coach and program.
However, for whatever reason, he feels Duke is his meal ticket. Maybe he and Shoeshoveski like giving each other colonoscopies.
I too have grown tired of him, but facts are facts.
UC is a fallen team that has failed to improve in the late part of the season. In fact, our record shows we suffer from end of season regression. Who can blame someone for taking a prove-it to me UC attitude when doing their pre-season rankings.
You want a good indicator on how good we are going to be? The Vanderbilt game should tell us. Virtually all of Vandy's roster is back this year. They should be both experienced and good. The second Maui game may match us with Maryland, another team that should be a test.
No, we are not a pre-season top 40 team. I just hope we are when the season ends.
With Lance in the lineup and a healthy roster, I am expecting 22 regular season wins. I've told myself I won't be disappointed with that number, but what I really want is a Coach Kelly, expectations-exceeded-beyond-my-wildest-dreams season. I just don't know if Coach Cronin has that in him.

fair point...but still leads to a lot of growing pains, limited offensive capacity, and mistakes

I agree with you that we haven't proven anything, but has UK really proven anything? Yes, on paper they look good, but have proven nothing.
I think we have a great shot to win the Maui tourny. Basically all the teams are pretty good (excepth Chaminade). We win this, and we will start getting respect. Thats something we haven't had in years.

Kentucky is one of the biggest name brands in college basketball. Couple this with Calipari and the recruiting class he brought in and you have your reasons for Kentucky's media run. I keep telling people on this forum that brand name matters in college athletics. Whether it is recruiting or rankings. Let a team from a low profile league that is ranked in the top 25 lose a game and see how quickly they drop out of the top 25. On the other hand a high profile team from a BCS league could lose 4-5 in a row and hang in the top 25. Brand name matters.
