In your opinion, what do you think hurts the Big East more? The fact that a few of our coaches leave the conference for "better" jobs? Or the fact that the ones who leave seem to struggle at their new jobs?

In my opinion, it's a two-edged sword because when coaches leave, it speaks for the perception of the conference, as not being a top conference. Yet, when those coaches are unsuccessful in the jobs that they leave for, it speaks to the quality of the conference, as not being a top conference. Not that I necessarily feel that the Big East is weaker than any other conference in college football. But, my concern is PUBLIC perception. Of course, I am talking about Rich Rodriguez and Bobby Petrino in particular. On the one hand, if Ropdriguez leaves WVU for Michigan, one can say;
"See, the Big East is not big-time because it can't keep it's coaches."
But, when Rodriguez does not do a good enough job at Michigan, one can say;
"See, Rodriguez is not such a good coach because his success came against mediocre Bg East competition."
Then, I don't even have to mention the whole mess with Petrino and the Falcons, and now Arkansas.
It's just that part of me wants a guy like Rodriguez to flop because I feel like he abandoned the conference when he could have stayed and added some more credibility. But, another part of me wants to see him succeed, because that at least means that our conference had coaches of great quality to begin with.
I think that going forward, we need to make sure that guys like our Brian Kelly stay for the long haul. I think that that would be a major boost for the conference. I feel like it is good that Schiano decided to stay at Rutgers, although that team having fallen short the last few years leads me to think that he is an over-valued commodity. I also think that Wanstadt developing winners at PITT and his identity as an NFL guy is good for us as well. Hopefully Marone can build Syracuse into a power, in the meantime.
Obviously, keeping great coaches in the Big Eat only helps the Big East and I think that that is beginning to happen. However, losing coaches hurts us. But, what hurts more? The coaches leaving? Or the coaches doing poorly outside of the Big East?

that's a tough question but I would have to say that coaches leaving hurts us more. I don't think many people doubt the fact that those WVU squads with Pat White, Steve Slaton, and Owen Schmitt were some of the tops in the country.

both scenarios help us. bk sees that coaches haven't necessarily had success elsewhere, after tremendous success in the conference.
