I assume Justin Jackson will make it official but other than that, I haven't heard anything else.

Wouldn't be surprised if we get another player or two to sign in addition to Jackson early.

Mick should only sign frontcourt players... unless he finds a top 10 guard... so many backcourt players... we need some more beef up front, and let's ONLY sign guys that can DUNK HUGELY

I would.I didn't know we had room to sign 2 additional players to Jackson.
I thought only Vaughn and Toyloy would leave 2 openings.
Also,it might be good to wait until spring to sign someone else since a lot can happen.

They will try and sign another post player in the fall and then see what Lance does. Kendrick is a guy of course that they are going after. Despite what rivals.com new list says we are still in with him.
Mitchell is off the table. Narrowed his choices to Missouri, G Town, and North Texas

No,like top players waiting to see coaching changes or exactly what type of season UC had.
It's not like all the top players from last year were signed in the fall season.
I clearly recall us getting a top player AFTER the spring season.

There are some things going on beneath the surface. The Cats are in with a couple big men that the media isn't reporting and, I know this will piss some people off, I cannot disclose the names. They are also still chasing Kendrick, as earlier stated, and still in the mix there. Kendrick will sign late, and this is just a personal opinion, but I think Kentucky is the frontrunner for him at this point. They will try to sign a big man now, and one other recruit in the spring if a scholly opens. If Kendrick did want to come, a scholly will be opened somehow.

And don't really care (too much). He is a superb recruiter. He'll sign good recruits, whether this week or next spring. Their names don't matter 2 me.
I'm keen on getting 20+ W and NCAA bid in March 2010. Recruiting will be fine.

In percentages, how likely do you think it is that they get one in the early signing period?

Brent - isn't North Texas in Denton - I know that's close to Dallas, but Dayton is close to Cincinnati. ;)

Valid point. You're not the only BCNer that is frustrated by the lack of recruiting news.
There have been some rumblings of a big man or two, but nothing concrete. I've done thorough background on the names that have been suggested and I cannot find anything. I feel confident that Justin Jackson ("JJ") will be the only early signee. We'll get one or two more recruits during the season and/or in the spring period.
Justin Jackson came out of the blue (according to most national publications) because we were not mentioned with him at all. Scout, Rivals, etc., all missed the boat on that one.
I echo Bearcat58's voice, but am disappointed that our name is not being mentioned as often as other BigEast players.
Mick keeps things quiet. Not to mention, we don't have any local guys that are big in recruiting (i.e. Jody Demling). I have 5-6 sites that I check on a regular basis for recruiting news and those have all been quiet regarding UC.

Discussing possible players, speculating on interest levels, arguing over recruit rankings, etc. It just seems that most of that is now off the table for UC.

CD, Again I agree but this is what we have to deal with. We have our insiders on this board but that given we still don't get much and neither does BCL and they have a paid inside track. (In theory)

whats the story on Justin Jackson? Dont know anything about him
Bearcat Jeff

Jackson is probably our only early signing. There is an outside shot at another, but it is a long shot as far as I can tell. I use several sites like Lobot and BA1 and hear "whispers" but things have been very quiet for 2 weeks or so. That leads me to believe nothing is going to happen right away with anybody but Jackson. I still look for 2 others to sign at some point.

I cannot speak for others, but I am very excited about Jackson.
He is 6'8" 210lbs with a very high motor. He has been described as an undersized 4 man, but excels in an uptempo game. His final choices included Missouri (who runs like a crazy team) and Cincinnati (who "hopefully" will run like a crazy team). He is raw, athletic and needs to work on his overall skill set. However, his work ethic, desire and ability to get after it cannot be questioned.
For those interested, Montverde (his HS team in Florida) is attending the Flyin' to the Hoop in Kettering, Ohio this year. He is slated to play 2 or 3 games against top notch competition. There is another stud on his team that we've been mentioned with (I think; name escapes me), so it might be worth the price of admission to get a sneak peak of what Mr. Jackson will offer next season.
Hope this helps.

I think we may sign another one in addition to Jackson this week. My "source" would only say that he expects to see a "couple" sign this week. He did not name names.

I'd be suprised to see two kids sign this week or anytime before the New Year.

Clearly some of Mick's surprise recruits have been good ones. Let's see how the under the radar signings (Dixon, Parker, etc) turn out to see how good he is at finding diamonds in the rough.
I do think this is the year Mick needs to capitalize. Three potential NBA players on this team-- Yancy, Lance and Deonta. Most times you would be talking about a final 4 with that type of talent.
I believe in Mick and hope he can capitalize.

It will not totally blow me out of the water if 2 sign, if the second is one of the under the radar big men I've heard about. If it is anyone else I will be shocked. Jackson is a Bearcat type of player, almost in a throw back mold, and I think people will love him. He is very agressive, plays very good defense and loves to rebound and scores alot on offensive boards. Offensively he needs work, but he should contribute good minutes on the boards and defensively.

Deonta is not a NBA prospect.
While his size does not make him a great fit, I would still say he at least a "prospect". He's a great shooter and is very strong taking the ball to the cup. He's still got this year to prove himself more. Will his game benefit with a real team around him or will we see that his impressive numbers we're the product of being the only option on offense? I'd say he's got an outside chance of being a late second rounder.

I'd love to see DV make a team but as a prospective 2nd rounder odds are not good. If he's drafted in the front end of the 2nd round I think he's a D-league or European player. Hate to say that because he's meant so much to the program but I suspect this is the reality.

You may be correct in that assessment CD, but since you don't argue with the results it this problem necessarily a bad one?

Not having very much recruiting news to discuss just narrows the overall experience of supporting the Bearcats. I, for one, miss it.
