Hey there everybody. This is my first of hopefully many posts on BearcatNews. I've been following this forum for close to five years and check it at least five to seven times a day even when I know nothing's happening. I'm not sure why it took me so long to join, but I'm very excited to be part of this forum. If you're still reading, I appreciate it...I just want to give everyone a bit of my background and connection to UC. My dad graduated from DAAP a while back and as soon as he had a son to take to the games we were there together. Basketball and football, my dad has instilled his University of Cincinnati pride in me and this has honestly made our father-son relationship even stronger through Bearcat bonding. I have always lived in Northern Kentucky and unfortunately I grew up in a private schools full of Kentucky fans. My grade school and high school years were full of friendly arguments between classmates in which I always found myself having to defend my Bearcats. All my closest friends are UK fans who give me a hard time as often as possible and I take great pride in being the only UC fan in our "group." I'm currently a full time college student in Kentucky but I am determined to take even just one class at UC so I can say I was a student here. Having said all that, there is nothing I can say to explain my obsession with UC (it's definitely an unhealthy obsession, but none the less something that I love.)
On a lighter note, just a few thoughts: what more can I say about the job BK has done here?!?!!! Cincinnati Football has revived this city! (I am a season ticket holder) As far as basketball is concerned, as we've all said and seen, this team has PLENTY of talent and I look forward to a promising season. My only concern thus far is our perimeter defense...having attended both the exhibition games and the Prairview and Toledo games this is the one thing that is driving me crazy. At times we tighten up and play very sound, fundamental defense but this is far too inconsistent. Right now there are too many defensive lapses especially on the perimeter. I know our opponents have shot the ball pretty well, but it has been hard to watch 3 after 3 after 3 drained against our D. Hopefully, this problem is being attended to in Maui because with their starting % returning from last year and decent depth, Vandy is going to be a great early season test for this team.
Go Bearcats!!!

Welcome and if your buddies want to talk about KY and give you a hard time for being a bearcat fan just tell them the UC basketball history. We are going through tough times right now but we will be back. KY has a great basketball tradition so I know thats hard.... but... Then there is always the top 5 football team comeback :)

I agree on the perimeter D. We will know more after Monday. If we play well enough to have a chance to win then I am happy. I look for them to always play to their competition this year. And as many have said... there will be games that we should win that we will lose and games that we should lose that we win. This team will look like a sweet sixteen team at times and then at times a CBI team...

Nothing better than hearing about someone from Kentucky cheering for the good guys. Good to have ya.
In regards to our perimeter defense, I completely agree. It does seem loose at times. I also believe that team defense is something that improves more and more as the year passes. Players become more familiar with eachother and switching their guys. It will get better. Hopefully sooner than later.

are u kidding? from what i have seen from the coaching department so far, they probably don't realize the problem.

You may be right...in my opinion, our perimeter defense has been somewhat suspect the last several years. It's the one thing that's really bothered me under Cronin. Being aggressive and having a sound defense is much much more than being able to body up in the post. Our inability to get to the perimeter on the defensive end worries me.
