I remember attending the UC-Northern Illinois game at Nippert on a beautiful November day in 1989. It was the last home game of the season. It was also Tim Murphy's first year as head coach.

This was what I consider the "bottom" for UC Football. There were, at most, perhaps 2500 fans in the stands, although the "official attendance" was probably 12K or so. Our only win that year was a victory over Miami (who ended the season winless).

UC lost 49-0. The players couldn't tackle, the receivers couldn't catch, half the team had transferred in the year or two prior, and things could not have been more disheartening. I even remember thinking, "the best thing for the UC Football program would simply be to end it."

Jump ahead 18 years, and look at the excitement of a winning program. Jim Borgmann from the Enquirer is even doing cartoons about the success of our current team, and we are on "pay for view" on the internet for the San Diego game. Who woulda thunk it?

Let us all enjoy the success of this year, and do so by emailing the Enquirer, who many of us have ripped for years for bad coverage, thanking them for the great coverage they have provided this year.

I stick to my original prediction that UC will be going to the Gator Bowl, finishing the regular season with a 10-2 or 9-3 record.

See you in Jacksonville!

Chris -
you bring up a good point. We are getting good coverage now and I doubt the papers are getting the same praise they received negativity about. Support the papers and they will continue to do the coverage. It is a supply and demand thing.
