I honestly feel that with the depth and youth Mick has at his disposal that a player such as Bishop will get minutes depending on the situation, match up and how well he is playing. If he's scoring, rebounding or playing great D I could envision him getting 20-25 minutes in a game. If it's a bad match up or he's off then maybe 5-10 minutes a night. He is the only freshman who completed a year of prep school and is more physically ready for the pounding of the Big East than Wilks but he isn't as explosive or intense as Alvin Mitchell. Mitchell could see time at the 2/3 while Bishop is a natural 3 and is likely to see most of his minutes there.

I think Bishop is just one of many. I'm just hopeful that a few of the freshman are contributors this year....especially guys like McClain, Mitchell, and Wilks. I think Bishop would be a bonus.

I hope Mitchell steps up, we're gonna need him to. Same w/ McClain. Wilks should be decent this year. The other guys just need to watch, listen, learn, and develop.

I'd guess Bishop for 5-10 minutes per game. Sometimes 15 or 20, sometimes 0.

Altho Wilks should be a star here down the road, Bishop should see more minutes this year. Wilks just isn't physically ready yet, and Bishop is. There's an understanding between Mick and Wilks that this year will be devoted to getting him ready, and Wilks himself isn't expecting to play alot. That's the word going in, unless Wilks is able to develop physically faster than anticipated and conditions change.

The only comment I have is if this is so, then why the rush to get him on campus this year? If he is not expected to play much, why not let him stay another year in prep school to continue to improve his game and give his body another year of maturity. It seems to me like this would be a lost year and not a very good move, if Mick and Wilks have this "understanding". I don't think Mick has the luxury of bringing a guy in so he can fill a roster spot for a year, especially when they sped up the academic process to get him eligible for this year. It doesn't make sense. I think Mick expects some type of contribution from Wilks at some point this year or he would not have brought him in early. I agree that Wilks needs to add some weight and physical maturity but Rip Hamilton at UCONN survived and thrived in the Big East playing the small forward spot and he is/was no adonnis.

#1, he gets enrolled in UC's strength and conditioning program.

#2, he gets used to the game at this level.

Bearcat cafe is correct. The move made sense because, first, the spot came open and there was no one else to fill it; and second, because Wilks can be in our conditioning program and by competing in practice, being on the team and getting some playing time, develop much more here than anyplace else. Wilks is nowhere near Hamilton in physical development at this point. What I've related was told to me by Wilks. But we'll see what happens.

#3 and he loses a year where he could better contribute

Most players of Wilks' talent level and aspirations don't think in terms of 4 years anymore. That's not to say he's assuming he'll be gone before 4 years, but he's not assuming he'll be here 4 years either. And with players at his level the coaches have learned to think the same way. It's a shame for college basketball, but that's the way it is. I assure you Mick's not expecting McClain to be here 4 years, much as he'd like to have him that long.
