Congratulations to coach Cronin!
He started with nothing.
The program was in complete shambles.
One year of absolutely no recruits (Huggins' lame duck year)
A second year of absolutely no recruits (Kennedy's pre-announced lame duck year)
A third year of almost no recruits (Cronin's hire too late to get in on anyone)
A fourth year of trying to rebuild from nothing....no recruits, few fans, no buzz no love.
Now to a top 25 ranking! I think Mick accomplished this in a remarkably short time given all that he had to face....It gives me total confidence in him for the future and, unlike the football coach, we know he'll stay here, hence a rock solid recruiting base for years to come.
Thanks, Coach!

The thought did run through my mind that with all the ANNUAL drama over BK staying or leaving, it feels really, really good to know that Cronin is here for the long haul. He's not looking to be anywhere but here, and that feels kind of like capital R Relief compared to the football crap every single year.

Absolutely spot on. Cronin has done a remarkable job. I hope we have a good year and he lives up to SN's coach of the year BE prediction. Then, I hope, he can continue to recruit high caliber players.
I hope he feels appreciated. Wouldnt it be ironic if Cronin were to leave when we all assume he is a lifer. :) Fingers crossed that never happens and he's successfull here.
I give him credit for taking over a bare bones program.

I want to see how the year plays out before I say "I hope he's here for the rest of his coaching career". It's a bit early for that kind of talk, isn't it?
However, I am absolutely thrilled to be back in the top 25 where I think we belong! I also give him big kudos for getting them to play that killer "d" the last 3 games.....that was one of my main concerns.

Heck no it's not early to start that talk.
Put together what his teams has done on and off the court, and we have a great coach! He went from nothing to something in a very short time. Many fans think it should happen right away, but that's not how it works. It takes time and having a full team. Don't forget this is the first year where Cronin has had his full team.
Cronin is at home and it's time for all UC fans to be happy about this. We have are guy!

Without more fan support I could see him leave. He has felt like he was not appreciated before and iwithout support I could see him leaving.
This is the year I wanted to have the team in the tournament and it appears that this team will do just that.

this is his dream job he will not leave unless he is fired. people will catch on, sadly, but it is just like the football team once they get a rank they'll come back, trust me

UC signed plenty of recruits in 2005 (Huggins' lame duck year) and 2006 (Kennedy's lame duck year) although Mick signed all of the 2006 recruits.
UC signed plenty of recruits in 2007 and 2008 also.

I understand that it is his dream job and I appreciate that, but have you ever dated your dream girl? If that dream girl ignores you and treats you like crap you leave her. That is my fear. We need people in the seats and to give mick the resources.

Yes, UC signed recruits in 05 and 06, unfortunately, the only one of the recruits that could actually play the game was Devon Downey. Ron Allen was the typical recruit signed by Huggs and Kennedy in 05 and 06.

It seems like this team is on the brink of bringing Cincy basketball back for at least this year. They have played solid D and Cronin deserves a lot of credit for building this squad and for the way the team is playing.
But let's not have a "Mission Accomplished" moment here. Plenty of work to be done and I'm not really fond of the early celebration. The weight has not lifted, we're 5 games in.

I agree that Mick has done a great job....keeping up the motivation will be the biggest challenge. The talent is there.
It's funny how the football team is seen to some as a stepping stone job, while no one has really thought that for basketball.

I agree. Just because we're now in the top 25....great, but it's certainly not "mission accomplished". I'm glad that we're all celebrating, but wanting to give MC a lifetime contract is a bit crazy at this point.
I like what MC has done and he deserves big time kudos! But, the bar is being raised as we speak - lets not be satisfied w/ 20th to 25th in the nation people!! I don't think Mick is either!
And yes, we need more butts in the seats!!

Just going off memory on how much those guys played for us, so I could be wrong on a few. Our recruiting during that 3 year period was absolutely dreadful. The situation Mick inherited couldn't get much worse.

Deandre Coleman played a few games under Kennedy. He left because because he wasn't getting enough playing time. Then Kirkland went down and we really could have used him.
Herrara was on the team when Cronin arrived too. He played in the first scrimmage that was opened to the public, but he transferred shortly thereafter.
