OK can someone tell me how a team that have beaten two ranked extremely turnover prone teams gets a #6 ranking? They were handed those games by the other team. Overrrr Rated!!!

The name of the game is winning and right now, USF is doing a pretty darn good job of it. Kudos to USF for taking down WVU for the 2nd straight season. UC's trip to Tampa is not going to be an easy one.

Cal is probably the only team in the country with two better wins than USF. They are ranked where they should be... I think WVU is still the best team in the conference, but USF has taken care of business.

It matters to what rankings philosophy you subscribe. Who else has a better resume than South Florida right now? Are they the 6th best team....probably not, but are they deserving of the 6th ranking yes.

A lot of ranked teams that were supposed to stay that way this weekend went down. Especially in the Big 12 and SEC. The Big 10, outside of OSU and maybe Wisconsin is not looking too tough. Michigan struggled till late with Northwestern - that was a surprise.
USF won at Auburn and at home against favored WVU. They've handled the games they should. If the Big East is good....and I think it is pretty good, then they have just replaced WVU and Louisville at the top and for now, UC is stepping up to the plate, as well.
As the Big East starts play, we will see some great stuff shake out. This league looks brutal for the teams in it! UC has as good a chance as any and by the same token can get beaten bad if not careful - although I like how prepared they have been and if they continue to stay focussed, yeah for us fans!

Exactly what I was thinking  Just think if we're undefeated and USF is undefeated when we meet..they'd be top 3 we'll be top 10.

Who cares if they were turnover prone, did they win the games or not? Yes they did. They're #6, and rightfully so.

And many turnovers are forced not just mistakes. I believe this is true with many that UC forced.

Their next 2 games are versus Fl. Atl and Central Fla. They could end up being the most fraudulent top 5 team in the history of the poll.

Just like an undefeated Boise St team that won a BCS game last year? They won at Auburn - who looked really good against Florida on Saturday - and kicked the crap out of WVU. I wouldn't say that is fradulent. Would you rather have the teams that lost in there?

Agreed. With Rutgers' loss by Maryland, it could help them get fired up and also before that, they have a big revenge on their mind after they got badly beaten at Nippert last season. They probably can't afford to lose another game this weekend.
I am sure Kelly would have said like this to his players by now.

Bah. I don't buy the "team gets fired up after a loss" thing. If you need to get beat by a mediocre team in order to get fired up about playing, there is something wrong with you. I am more a subscriber to the "a team's weaknesses get exposed after a loss" thing. The Rutgers D has some pretty big holes in it, and I am confident that we can handle Rice - we handled him last year, and if anything our run defense is even better.
As for SoFlo, I hope they remain undefeated until our meeting with them. If Florida knocks off LSU, then there would be no more than 4 undefeated teams in front of them - OSU and Wisconsin, who play that day, and USC and Cal, who face off the following week.
When Undefeated UC shuts out undefeated SoFlo, we will be in the National Championship conversation!

UCF is a lot better than you think. They would destroy Oregon State

Good teams are usually tougher to beat after a loss. It makes them even more determined, and this is a Rutgers team that is already looking to pay back UC and win the BE. The intangibles are with Rutgers, especially in front of the home crowd.
It's still early to know how good either of these teams is at this point. Maryland was very big and physical upfront, which gave Rutgers problems. We don't have Maryland's size and won't present as much of a match up problem for them. We're good against the run, but don't have the pass rush to bother Teel as much as Maryland did. Rutgers does pass downfield alot more than last year.
SFU is by far the best defense in the league. A 6 rating may be a little high, but right now they look like the team to beat.

Why not? Until they lose, they have a legitimate shot. And there is not a single team on the schedule that they do not have a realistic chance to beat.
Their chances of beating all four tough teams (RU, SoFlo, UL, and WVU) are not great, but they are real. Last year they beat two of them and were very close to beating UL. UC is better this year, UL is worse, and the best of the four teams (WVU) is on our home field.
Of course, even if they win all 12 games, they will still need help - undefeated teams from the Big 10, Pac 10, or SEC would all be guaranteed to finish above an undefeated team from the Big East. But IF there is no more than 1 undefeated from those 3 conferences, it would be almost impossible to deny an undefeated Big East team the other spot.
There are 3 Big East teams that remain alive in the Championship picture - South Florida, UC, and UConn. Each of them remains alive until they lose. At least two of them will lose, and probably all three, but it is foolish to disregard any of them until they do. After all, who would have thought, last September, that Rutgers would make it into late November with a legit shot at the title game?

Good teams are usually tougher to beat after a loss.
Tell that to Michigan.
And I do realize that the response to that is , "Michigan isn't a good team" (even if they were good enough to beat Penn State), but all that really does is define "good team" to mean "team that doesn't lose two games in a row", which reduces the entire thing to a tautology.
I could just as easily, and as accurately, argue that good teams are easier to beat after a loss, provided the next team they play is better than they are. If a team loses because they lack "determination", then they are a sad bunch, and losing isn't likely to help them.
