While driving to work this morning, the QFM 96 morning show hosts, Wags & Elliott, mentioned the 'Cats. Wags stated he stayed up to watch the 'Cats drill the Aztecs. It was nice to hear them talk about the other BCS program in Ohio, despite the long shadow cast by tO$U in Columbus.

There's enough room in this state for 2 good football programs. Its going to be a long time before the Bearcats can steal any of the Buckeyes' thunder, but this is a nice start.

In the Columbus Dispatch, they do cover Ohio U. There is generally a decent article on the Bobcats. However, the Bearcats are lumped into the "other ohio college" section that usually gets 2 sentences.
I don't think the Bearcats would ever be allowed to steal any of the Buckeye's thunder in the local media - the locals would hang the local media if that happened.

I'd be perfectly comfortable if UC ends up being option 1a or 2 for Ohio football recruits. The problem currently is not that they go to OSU, it's that we're competing with the likes of Michigan State (ahem), Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.
OSU is always going to be OSU, and, in most cases, they'll have their pick of recruits. There are a LOT of talented players in Ohio, though.

What is most aggravating is the complete omission of Bearcats scores in the Columbus Dispatch. Usually, the 'Cats are neither included in the "Ohio Colleges" section nor the "Top 25" section when ranked (mostly applicable to basketball). I gave them a mulligan this past week since the game was a 10:00 p.m. kickoff. But, I'll be interested to see how they cover the Rutgers game, especially if the 'Cats win. When the 'Cats lose or a player is injured or arrested, the story is front page news. When they do something great, it gets lost in the mix. It's as if the Dispatch does not want to report the success of UC for fear of infringing upon tO$U.

I'm not comfortable with that at all. o$u deserves no respect nor reverence. I highly doubt BK is willing to be comfortable with that either.

The Dayton Daily News doesn't even mention the Bearcats in the Sunday papers. They mentioned the Battle for the Bell but they were really covering Miami. They put the Dayton Flyers football team before the Bearcats.

No one is suggesting we should concede recruits to OSU, but let's accept reality for what it is. Face it, a $30million budget for football alone means something.
If we're option 1b for Ohio recruits, we will have made incredibly huge strides.

And that budget doesn't include what the players are paid

Two things:
OSU has a lot more to offer for football players now. They have a 110,000 stadium that has been full ever since I can remember. They have new facilities with the largest sports budget in college sports. They have a great tradition with NFL scouts at every game.
Also.....when looking at other school coverage in the Dispatch....look at how much advertising OSU does in the paper and with the Dispatch and then you probably won't wonder about it.

Good for them, but UC will be just fine. We have brand new facilities as well and a lot to offer football players, a BCS conference, BCS bowl, a tradition of sending players to the NFL, big names on the schedule, a Top 20 football program and NFL scouts at all the game now. Ohio State is going to have to deal with the fact that there is another Top 20 program in the state.

100% agree, but don't think that we are going to be considered the no.1 Ohio destination for a long time.
