This used to be the talk of the town this week. This Brian Kelly stuff is killing any talk of the shootout. The only sports talk in the City is about BK. Also, what in the world is with the timing of this game? ESPNU????

I dont know.. Me and some people were talking about how upset we were with the day, time, and channel. This used to be a primtetime ESPN game, no its just a sunday night ESPNU game.

This could end up going down as one of the most important Shootouts ever for UC. The athletic will of the community is on the verge of being crushed. If BK goes on Thursday (as everyone thinks he will), a total and complete destruction of Xavier would really make us all feel better! I will be there cheering on the team louder than I have in a long time. I want to stand at the exits of the Cintas Center shaking hands with Xavier fans letting them know that we are BACK!!! Let's go Mick, get the boys fired up!!!!!

I agree, with the dissapointment of Kelly leaving, smacking down X will make us all feel a lot better!!

I agree, with the dissapointment of Kelly leaving, smacking down X will make us all feel a lot better!!I triple that sentiment. Just think how wonderful it will be to smack X around AND for Kelly to stay. One can only hope (for the Kelly part - the smackdown is a done deal)

Yeah it is weird... the Miami game is on ESPN2 for the first time in forever and the XU game is on ESPNU.
Gotta f*****' beat Xavier, man. By like 25.

Xavier (OH) looks like sh1t against K-State tonight..just hit 30 with 12 min to go in second half. Getting outrebounded like crazy! UC should dominate this team

UC needs to win this game to get fans in seats. It will be embarrassing if for UConn the arena is not packed.

Winning this game will definitely put me in a much better mood. And hopefully winning does get more people inside 5/3. I'm a student now and I'm regularly trying to convince friends/roommates to go. Hasn't happened yet. When it came down to it, them not budging didn't stop me from going alone, and won't anytime soon.

Let me tell you guys, you'll be in a great mood Sunday night. The Bengals are going to win, BK is going to stay and after watching my Muskies play tonight, UC will destroy them. I know it's the Crosstown Shootout but Xavier is just plain bad. I think UC needs a couple of years of good to great seasons before I would say they are back but they sure as **** look good right now.

This is part of the problem with the build up. Xavier was a top 25 program with top 25 talent but they have not played very well. Plus you throw in the time and the day it is a buzz killer. Then to top it all off it is on ESPNU. I don't get that station. In the end thanks to the stupid sports directors at these schools I most likely won't be watching this game.

Maybe part of it is that the game isn't as meaningful now that we are in the Big East. I know it is different for those that live in Cincinnati since you work with Xavier fans and have to deal with them, but I would much rather beat Pitt, WVU and Louisville than Xavier.

Or, UC has not been part of the national scene for the past few years.

It used to be a game where we were expected to win and we always did. Then it became a game where we expected to win and rarely did. Lately, we're not even expected to win. We'll go into this game as the favorite and X will put it all together for one night and play like national champions. The game has definitely lost a lot of its luster. You could always tell that Huggs hated playing this game and he kept talking about dumping them off the schedule like he did with Dayton and Miami. Today, it has become a game that is slightly better than "who cares". In the old days, I couldn't wait for it to happen. Now, I've barely thought about it. I agree that the numerous Big East wars has kind of shoved this game to the back burner for me too. This year though, I feel it is a real pivotal game for us because a victory would give us huge momentum and confidence leading up to the Big East schedule. It could really jump-start us into a real special season.

I posted something similiar on another thread LT. I think in terms of winning the city back this is huge. I really don't think these players like each other much and that there's some bad blood between them. I love the toughness this team plays with and the chip they have on their shoulders. Just my gut, but I think Lance will have a big game. Thomas will be on the floor as well and could be huge if he can hit some mid range shots. The Cats have got to look to get to the basket and for the 15-17 foot shots and not settle for 3's all night. I hope they come in with a total attack mentallity. Rebounding will be huge as well. Especially on the defensive end.

Once UC went into the Big East, we got bigger fish to fry. X can make it seem like this is mutual disinterest, but no way - they beat us, they just beat a Big East team, which is decidedly more advantageous than us beating an A10 team.

You can stick your head in the sand all you want, but the fact is the whole Nancy debacle is a big reason the Shootout is in the State its in today.
Funny how some of you want to complain that the Shootout is "down", but don't want to actually recognize the cause of it being down.

It is in the state it is in because of the popularity of football in Cincinnati. When the Bengals are headed to the playoffs and UC football is 12-0 and going to the Sugar Bowl fans are not going to be reved up about basketball. If you want to bring the excitement back play the game mid February when there is nothing else going on in the city. Is Skyline selling Crosstown Shootout basketballs this year? Is there a Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout lunch at the Convention Center?

Glad you went there and not me CEG. Yes, if you want to get to the base root of all our problems, you can certainly go back there. But, the truth is that our administration has done some additional stupid things along the way since that fiasco to make the problem worse. Mick is slowly but surely digging himself out of the sludge. However, many of our fans are still having trouble digging themselves out of the same sludge.

Mick has said that he will never consider putting the Shootout during conference play because it would be too much of a distraction, so you can stop beating that drum.

To me, anyone that allowed NZ, or the departure of Huggs, to keep them from supporting this program behaved like immature children. The players and new coach had no part in that debacle but both have paid for it. It's just stupid that 4 years later this gets brought up. Just move on man. Some on here are probably still mad their high school girlfriend broke up with them.

For the same reason UC/XU are playing on a Sunday evening at 7:00pm on the day the Bengals are playing against Brett and the Minnesota Vikings.

Not much thought put into the above post. ND brings much more to the Big East than most realize, XU would bring zero to the Big East.

Different situation. The people who made the unpopular decision to can Huggins were still around. I think the attitude of the fans, toward hoops started to get better, once NZ moved on. If Kelly had been fired, you would have the same reaction.
On the other hand, if the new football coach fails to get UC to any bowl game for 3 straight years, I'm sure the fans will grow impatient.

Keep in mind that at this time of the year, the Bengals are out, the UC football is out, etc. Now there is a lot to talk about around town without the crosstown. I for one have never really been thrilled about this game. It is one that we have everything to lose and nothing to gain (the same reason why tosu will not play us in fb). XU has not made a lot of noise yet so there is no hype.
