Obviously we would love to have Mike in the lineup, and it's unfortunate that he has to miss his 2nd straight season... BUT... with the athleticism and depth on this squad, Mick can make it work.. think back to his Murray St teams, where he didn't have a post presence.. he just played 10 guys, tried to outquick teams, played fast with pressure, and won 20+ games every year. This is just a more athletic and skilled version of his Murray St teams.. and so it may work out better that Mike won't be in the lineup because of those reasons...

PLUS... compare it to baseball.. the Indians, Rockies, and DBacks all built teams from scratch.. developed chemistry as they grew up together, and now look... we can do the same thing with this squad.. Mike was kinda like the "big free agent signing"... so now we can develop all this young talent and in a couple years we'll be back in "the playoffs" and tough to deal with

Wish we could play OVC teams this year.

When we rely on chemistry to play a factor in our success, we are in trouble. We can not rely on chemistry.

Chemistry played a big part in 31 W in 2002.

But talent played a bigger part.

Chemistry comes from experience and playing together. That 2002 team had a lot of veterans on it and players in set roles. For the most part this year's team will be searching for those pieces. And while Deonta may eventually be close to Steve Logan-like his senior year he is far from a 1st team All America that struck fear into every team Cincy played that year.

That being said I like that all of the freshmen save for McClain have been on campus since June (Wilks arrived in July) and appear to have bonded. Also an improved Jamual, healthy Marvin and four physically ready freshmen in Bishop, Mitchell, McClain and Belton should at least allow for less wear and tear for Deonta and JWill.

I spoke with Deonta and he looks a lot leaner this year. He told me that he put a lot of work into the offseason and hopefully all the hard work will pay off.

Actually, the 2002 team had plenty of talent.

I'm not sure he ever said they didn't have talent. Please re-read.

Chemistry, experience, roles. Those 3 were used to describe the successful ingredients of the 2002 team.

Talent. That word was missing and played a big part in their success.

Defense, scoring, passing, coaching. Those also weren't mentioned. I guess they didn't have any of those aspects either.

Talent is the first three. Coaching was indeed a positive factor.

But nobody wins 30+ games without talent.

No kidding! That is why it need not be said. Obviously they had talent. Every team that makes it to the NCAA has talent. It is what you do with the talent that creates success. UC had more talented teams in the past that did not perform as well as the 2002 team. If it just came down to talent there would be no reason to play the game. But thanks for making my point.
