I heard he was going to be on campus this weekend. Is there any truth to that and if so how did it go?

He was on campus this weekend after doing some minimal research.

He is a big time player. I am not sure if he re-affirmed his commitment but he seems likely to stay with the Cats.

He is one of a handful of freshman that could see time next season.

Guess we will have to wait and see, but seems to look good

I really think Dejwan Lewis and Black are the two musts when it comes to keeping recruits that are wavering.

Has anyone heard if he is now a solid verbal? Or is he still testing the market?

He's still testing. He's going to visit Indiana, MSU, UM. Supposedly he said at the end of Dec. that he is still about 95% sure he'll stick to his commitment at UC. We'll see.

Don't know if anyone saw this. It was just posted by Mike Dyer of the Enquirer. I like the way this sounds:

Wyoming senior DL Jibreel Black (UC commit) may cancel official visits he planned to take to Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana, according to Wyoming coach Bernie Barre.

Black, who orally committed to UC this past fall, took an official visit to UC this past weekend.

“I am not sure if Jibreel is going to make his other visits,” Barre wrote in an e-mail. “He was very happy with UC this past weekend and may cancel the other visits.”

Black has been considering other visits this month as he continues to weigh his options after the UC coaching change.

According to posters on the Michigan St. board, Black did in fact take a visit up there this weekend. Apparently his coach's comments weren't exactly accurate about him not taking anymore visits.

If he didnt commit when he was there I feel pretty good. Black will stay on.

Michigan sites are reporting that Black committed to Michigan today, would be a tough loss if true as Black is the 2nd best player in the class IMO.

RichRod stikes again. This kid was committed to Indiana in November, to UC in December, and now Michigan. Michigan is 3 deep on their D-Line. All I can say is have fun losing in Ann Arbor.

Is this official or just rumor mongering in the Michigan fan sites?

This is official. The Michigan sites have direct quotes from Jibreel and his father. Said they are buying Michigan gear now to celebrate.

Great. Go to Michigan and get your head kicked in for 4 years and likely play for a different coach at some point during that time. Way to screw over your hometown team a week before signing day.

Its on the front page of the Scout.com Michigan site and Black is no longer listed on UC's list of commits. Black has been sketchy since the beginning of his recruitment, Michigan is now the 3rd school he has committed to. It wouldn't shock me if he ended up somewhere else on signing day.

Is there anything worse than sitting the bench on a losing team?

You think he'll be sitting the bench? I'm sure he'll play. He's one of the top recruits they have coming in and their defensive line is a bit thin. I believe one thing they sold him on was that he would get PT as a freshmen. One thing about being a losing team is you can always sell playing time.

Wrong. My mom's side of the family is originally from Michigan and we still follow them. Their entire starting D-Line this year was freshman and sophomores. (Check their roster out on mgoblue.com). That means Black will have to beat out experienced juniors and sophomores next year....it won't happen. True freshman simply do not play at places like Michigan....they almost always get redshirted. Too bad for the kid - cause it sounds like his father and him bought the RichRod sell job hook line and sinker.

You're incorrect. I follow Michigan closely and they are thin at defensive tackle. Look at their recruiting classes the past few years. They added one defensive tackle in 2008 and one defensive tackle in 2009. They didn't add any defensive tackles in 2007. They only have 3 returning defensive tackles. Why do you think they recruited 3 defensive tackles in this class. I know what their depth chart looks like and Black can easily break through.

Black may get some time at DL at Michigan... when he is a senior.

I don't see Jibreel playing DT at the next level. He's kind of a tweener to begin with and I see him as more of a DE. While his profile might say he's 6'2 260, at the Scout combine in Cincinnati his junior year he checked in at 6'0.5, 242 lbs. That's not a frame that's going to be able to support enough weight to play a true DT at the BCS level. With good strength and conditioning I see him as a DE.

From his video, Lozano looks to be more of a prototypical DT. There's just not much info on him out there so we don't know much about him or how early he'll be able to contribute. We'll definitely need to get at least 2 DTs next year to fill in depth for the next few years. In hindsight it was huge that the staff was able to pick him up so late in the process.

Believe what you want. As Racinejake has already pointed out Black is actually closer to 6'1 245 pounds and will never play D-Tackle at Michigan.....he might play Defensive End in a few years. Listed below are the returning starters at Defensive Tackle for Michigan.
One more thing......if Michigan has a 6-1 250 pound True Freshman starting at Defensive Tackle next year....then RichRod is officially toast and the Michigan AD can get on with their plan to hire John Harbaugh away from Stanford...which is the rumor that many Michigan Alums have talking about now for a couple years.

Greg Banks 6-4 275 JR*
Vince Helmuth 6-2 299 JR*
Mike Martin 6-2 291 SO*
Renaldo Sagesse 6-4 305 JR*

Just gives Coach Jones another scholarship he can offer to a bigger impact player. The same deal with Luke Massa if he goes to ND. Not saying Coach Jones is hoping some kids defect but my gut tells me he has some kids that he is big on that are not committed here just yet.

Copy and pasting those names from some site doesn't make them players at those positions. Did you even see a Michigan game last year? Banks is a defensive end and Helmuth transferred out. The only returning defensive tackles they have are Mike Martin, Renaldo Sagesse, and Will Campbell. Don't say you follow the team and then name a kid who isn't even on the team.

If you want to argue he'll be a defensive end then he'll have just as good of a shot. They have five defensive ends returning for two positions. They have two other defensive end commits, but they are more of the types that will be red-shirted. Maybe Jibreel won't play because he isn't as talented, but it won't be because of too much competition.

Yeah Michigan has one of the thinnest lines in the NCAA there is literally no depth between the starters. There was a walk-on in the two deep at DE this past season, I doubt that Black will redshirt or sit the bench at Michigan.

Michigan fans certainly aren't expecting him to.

Well, it's unfortunate, but this looked to be coming. As a Wyoming native, I've seen Black play for a few years and he's pretty good. Not a big fan of him committing to IU, backing out, committing to UC, backing out and now in with Michigan. I suppose he's looking out for his own best interest, but sorry to see him bail on the Cats.
