Rivals JUST updated their site saying that BJ just landed his first recruit for the Cats for 2010. They say that it is someone who wasn't previously committed to the Cats. That would be soooo awesome if it was Latwan or Matt James!

Someone find out who it is ASAP!!!

I won't say who it is since it is premium content, but I will say it is not James or Anderson.

I won't say who it is until it is updated on the commitment list or available free somewhere. But not james or anderson.

Is it a pretty big name? Maybe Miles Simpson or that RB recruit Pitt had.

Can we get a hint? Miles Simpson? Or that RB who was committed to Pitt?

Hmmm...you guys don't seem very excited about this commit...

I think it is a very good pickup and at a position where we have a need.

Roney Lozano. Never heard of him but is a DT with offers from FIU, Maryland, and Michigan State. Also he is from Florida which I like.

Newest commit per rivals.

6'3"
265lbs
American HS, FL

Unrated per rivals but the user rating feature has him as a 4*.

Had offers from FIU, Maryland, Mich St, and had interest from Mich.

Sounds like a pretty good pickup to me.

Not sure why he is listed as a 'soft verbal' if he verballed today...

Oh well

It is on the BCL front page now. Roney Lazano, DT from Florida.

I welcome him to the program. I can't say he is good or not. He is not the splash name that some/many want but he appears to be big and fast in his video. Don't know the competition level of it.

With our limited spaces I would think this is someone that the staff really wanted.

Here's a video I just found on him, looks like he just pushes the O-line around, but of course I don't know what kinds of talent he is facing

His school played in the big school division in Florida.

Definitely a big, powerful guy. Like most kids his age he plays to high but its nothing coaching can't fix. Looks like a good pickup to me at a position of need.

Got to like the frame. 6'3" 265lbs leaves plenty of room to add solid weight. I like it. 6'3" is a good size for a DT too. It seems many highly ranked DTs are around 6"-6'1" range.

From the article on BCL it sounded like his recruitment just really picked up once he sent out his highlight video getting offers from UC, Michigan St., and Maryland. You can never have enough DTs and we can definitely use him. In his video he looks like he moves really well for a big man and gets off the ball quickly. It appears that he's about as under the radar as it gets.

Might be because he's going to take a visit to Maryland next weekend. I think anyone who is still taking visits is listed as a 'soft verbal.'

Very nice to add a guy at DT. He looks like an athlete, which is never a bad thing. Someone said he plays in the big school division in Florida. If that's the case, his highlight video is pretty impressive. Looks like a good get by Jones and his staff.

Do you think this is a statement about where we stand with Jabreel Black or would this be in addition to Black? Probably reading too much into it but just a thought.

We need depth on the DL so I wouldn't be at all suprised to see both Black and Lozano sign.

No they need multiple defensive lineman badly. This isn't basketball where just one guy plays a position at a time. In football 4 defensive lineman play at the same time.

Oh my God! I just watched his highlight tape and I can't believe this kid was missed by the major schools. His tape is like the definition of a man among boys. Holy cow! He looks like at least a 4 star. I hope we don't lose him between now and signing day. Wow! Check it out.

Also this team needs size up front so it wouldn't surprise me to find one of them moving to DE.

That tape shows he keeps his head up well, and he could handle single blocks well. Didn't play left tackle too badly, but he looks better at shedding blocks as a DL.

Does he compare to Byrd?

cmm27

He looks bigger, faster and stronger than Byrd. So long as he is not apt to getting into minor trouble before a season, he could develop quite nicely.

We need depth on the DL so I wouldn't be at all suprised to see both Black and Lozano sign.

And we are also going to probably going to be going back to a 4/3 so will need more D lineman. Being able to sub them in and all all game is very important to the success of the team.

Don't mean to be negative but his competition looks pretty weak. He looks like a giant on the field compared to everyone else and he is only 6'3" 265. His speed is something that is impressive.

I don't know much about him, but his school is part of the Miami-Dade school system and he plays in the big division (6A) in Florida.

He looks pretty good. Some flaws that will need to be worked on (coming out of his stance too high), but there is definitely good stuff to work with.

Passes it enough that the Miami Hurricanes are making a huge push. Reportedly could be a signing day defection now.

Would be a HUGE blow to not sign a DT in this class.

I agree 100%. I think the defense needs some size and power to compliment the speed. Not getting a big, physical DT in this class could be a pretty big blow down the road. This goes along with having to keep Preston Brown as well.
