Oh great! Now Poole is considering Louisville with a probable Ky. visit. What is it with UC and LB's and D-Lineman? We can't seem to get a hold of very much local talent. I just don't get it. I know this case could be because Poole wants to join Daniels wherever he goes but still. It seems like we just keep getting WR after WR. (great gets though, very happy with them)

Oh well. Recruiting's not over yet. I guess we'll see.

Yeah this is getting quite old. Getting all these WRs is great but we need some people to play D!!!

Since I am just a track and cross-country guy (at UC), I am going to ask a stupid question to those of you that either played college or hs football. To me, it seems that hs football players play to their ego positions and football coaches put players at the best location to be successful. Can we get athletes from the WR spot from high school and convert them to the D side? I remember that Dantonio had Mardy playing the d side his first year. Can (and will) some of these O studs be willing to come to UC to play D?

It is always possible but I think we would all like to see some of the higher quality HS defensive players to actually sign with the Bearcats.

Yes that is possible. However, when you are talking about 5'9-5'11 and 160-175lbs you aren't looking at many Linebackers and D-Linemen out of that group. DB's yes.

Recruiting was going well for a while, now it's like a race horse fading in the back stretch...not giving up hope for Coach Jones to finish strongly though.

Poole has been out of the picture for months.

We hired Mr. Everhart for what purpose now?

I thought the exact same thing. Maybe he has better relationships with the local coaches than the ever intense Mr. Coombs.

Steve Specht would be a great coach to bring on to the staff.

Yeah, but I was alluding to the combined effect of Poole, Smith, Crockett and....

I saw that too and wondered what would make him a good coach at the college level. It's not that I don't think he could work at that level but being in a Big 6 conference I think you would want the best coaches available.

My thought is that there are plenty of experieced college level coaches that we could fill a potential need before we would hire an unexperienced high school coach.

....and we know where hiring local H.S. coaches has gotten us with the local recruits.

ESPN just ran a recruiting segement. I thought it was interesting. Only a quarter of the kids polled said a coach had anything to do with it. The vast majority reported that their mothers were the major influence in determining where they go to school.

^ That's not how I interpreted it. There is a difference between saying the coach was not the major influence, and that the coach had hardly anything to do with it. As with any major decision, there are many variables to consider.

Also - don't underestimate the role of how "Mama" feels about the coach.

When Mama's happy...everybody's happy.

When Mama's not happy...watch out.

You will learn that someday.

I was never saying they shouldn't make their mother happy. Everybody wants a happy mom. I just thought it was interesting given the emphasis we place on former high school coaches in our program to recruit local talent. They have not recruited local talent, or at least the local talent that we as fans feel they should be able to bring in. I was merely postulating that could be a reason why.
