Courier-Journal: Jody Demling:

Lexington Catholic High School sophomore Jaylen Beckham has long been considered the state's top college prospect in the Class of 2012.

Now, the colleges appear to agree.

The 6-foot, 165-pound sophomore already has two offers and is getting interested from a lot of other big-time schools as he heads into the final stages of his sophomore season.

"It's a lot of pressure, but I just want to keep playing and trying to get better," Beckham said.

DePaul and Washington have both offered scholarships, while Oklahoma State, Indiana, Alabama, Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio State and Florida have all shown interest.

Kentucky is watching and has shown a bit of interest, while Louisville assistant coach Walter McCarty was recently in to watch Beckham, according to LexCath coach Brandon Salsman.

"I am just trying to get better," said Beckham, noting he's not thinking a lot about a college decision. "I need to work on my assist-to-turnover ration and a consistent jump shot."

Surprised nobody has talked about this kid. He is the real deal and will have his choice of where he wants to go to school when his senior season rolls around.

Beckham is very explosive, quick off the dribble, and has unreal athleticism.

Here are a few videos of him:

^ Good stuff.

Beckham is listed as a top 100 recruit. I don't know how much contact we've made with him, but he will have his choice of many top tier schools.

Cincinnati seems to have made more contact with 6'4 Frosh Daryl Hicks of Shelby Co (KY) than Beckham but I can tell you first hand that this kid will be the best player to come out of Kentucky his senior year. Very comaprable to Devin Downey, only with more size. I'd expect him to be around 6'2 when he's finished growing.

I believe Beckham and Tamron Manning (6'4 soph Scott Co) have made a trip or two up to UC on unofficial visits together. Manning is another very good sophomore in KY.

If Mick wants to land some big time recruits, he doesn't have to go very far. Kentucky has several kids in the frosh and sophomore classes that are going to be known nationally heading in to their senior years. Mick needs to get in with these kids now if he wants to lure them away from Calipari and UK.

Couldn't agree more. While some may not like it, I wish we would push for early commitments like Matta does at OSU.

I've heard we had this kid on campus for a visit a bit ago with his AAU coach. Does anyone know if this is a new development or did I miss that he was here?

BTW, it hasn't been mentioned but I'm pretty sure Jaylen is related to current starting Mississippi St guard, Twanny Beckham who was a star for Louisville Ballard in 2007.
