Orlando Dr. Phillips point guard Shane Larkin is one of the top 2011 prospects in Florida.
Larkin, 5-10, 160, is the son of former 12-time MLB All-Star Barry Larkin, and is coming off a solid sophomore season as he averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game earning team MVP honors as the Panthers went 27-3.
There are over a dozen schools tracking Larkin, who plays with the Florida Assault/Showtime Ballers during the summer. Miami, Alabama, Clemson, South Florida, South Carolina, George Mason, Florida State, Cincinnati, VCU, Kansas State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, and Central Florida are paying close attention to the sharpshooter.

Larkin is a scoring point guard who is always pushing the ball in transition, which places pressure on the defense. He will go coast to coast for the layup or stop and shoot a pull-up 3-pointer. In the half court, he can play well in a two-man pick-and-pop game; he can drive the lane with quickness or shoot behind a screen. He needs to utilize his floater more often when he gets in the lane and to develop a strong dribble pull-up jumper. At times, he overpenetrates and leaves his feet and that's when he gets in trouble with a turnover or bad shot. We know he can score and he must continue to hone his ability to create for his teammates and demonstrate that he can run a team with his scoring ability. You can easily see he enjoys the game and loves to compete.

I really think he will land acorss town if he decides to come this far north. I really think Byron will have a hand in where he plays.

X doesn't have the scholly's to give Shane.

It would be funny to see a Larkin in UC gear.

March 11, 2010.

Three area juniors who are all high-level major college prospects, Austin Rivers of Winter Park, Shane Larkin of Dr. Phillips and Virginia Tech commit Robert Brown of Clermont East Ridge, are among 11 players on the ballot for the Dairy Farmers Class 6A boys basketball Player of the Year honor.

Rivers orally committed to Florida coming out of his freshman season, and has said that still counts. But he visited Duke in September and acknowledges that he is also considering the Blue Devils with a lot of time to think about his decision between now and the November signing period. Larkin still seems to be wide open, with his offer sheet growing all the time.

Brilliant insight. And I am NOT being sarcastic.

By the end of his career, my impression was that Barry Larkin wasn't a huge fan of the area. I don't see him sending his kid to school here.

Two schools that you can bet he will not seriously consider are UC and UD. Mick would do well to focus his recruiting resources elsewhere. Anybody by the name of Larkin sure ain't coming to UC.

Barry has mended a lot of the wounds and the Reds have reached out to him recently... from what I understand, all is well on that front... even read an article in the Enquirer recently about how he could hardly stand to put on a Nationals uniform as a coach because it felt almost wrong to him... he came back this spring training with Sean Casey and a few others to work with the players in camp... having Larkin in the organization again is only good news, that's for sure...

As far as this kid, it would be some poetic justice to see him in a Bearcats uni... lol
