From the front page of bearcat lair.....found it amusing.

He may not have the most popular last name right now for Cincinnati football fans, but Ryan Kelly could be the next Irishman to cast his lot with the Bearcats. Kelly recently picked up an offer to play for his hometown team. Go inside the Lair to see Kelly's reaction to that offer. [details]"

Now holds offers from:
BC
UL
UC
IN
Also has visited (unofficially) Michigan and will visit Alabama (unofficially).
Really hope we get this kid. Have heard his parents have UC season tickets so hopefully that will help sway him.

We need him. Need to continue bolstering the offensive line and keeping the local guys is important as well.

Kelly dropped down to a 3 star and #4 rated center prospect in the updated Scout 300. The kid who just committed to Ohio State jumped up to a 4 star and #1 ranked center prospect......coincidence?

Not a coincidence at all. I've said many times Scout is the absolute worst when it comes to rating prospects. They always do this. It is so predictable it has become comical. They also tend to have a fascination with bumping Ohio State commits. This is why their recruiting classes are rated so much higher by Scout than by anyone else.

Picked up an offer from Florida St today.
Getting Kelly would be huge. He has a bunch of good offers.

Florida St. offer is big. If there is any chance we could keep Kelly and Clark in Cincinnati I think it would cause a ripple effect for our recruiting class. These are the types of guys that if you get make a statement about the recruiting ability of your program. Other top notch recruits see that other blue chip recruits want to be a part of your program and it gets their attention as well. These are also guys that would have a great shot at early PT as well.

I'd be surprised if they dont keep Kelly.

Well that's very good news. I understand the thought now. It would be very hard to have season tickets to this football team, have an offer and not want to come (at least for me, but I'm a homer). What is our home win streak at now? The games are a blast, as we all know.

Yeah like Alex Smith? He waffled pretty good on his rah rah committment

Obviously you don't want guys like Smith who SAY they're going to be a leader of their class and then have second thoughts a couple months later. It happens all the time, though, when you get a key recruit early who then takes it upon themselves to recruit others to their class. Tom Savage at Rutgers was the cornerstone for their best class ever. Mike Brewster at Ohio State a couple years ago was another guy that got the ball rolling and made it his mission to reach out to other top notch recruits to try and convince them to go to Ohio State. Braxton Cave at ND in the same year would invite recruits to stay at his house when they came to visit ND.
My point is that getting the right guy early can be a catalyst for getting other big time prospects interesting in your program.

What would be interesting is to see how high he climbs the rankings as a recruit. Then, if he does end up at UC, to see how far he falls afterwards.

The more I think about it the more Kelly appears to be the key to this class. Much like his former teammate Schlomer he has a bunch of offers from some very good teams. Kevin chose UC over offers including LSU last year and really got the ball rolling for recruits to start recommiting to UC after BK left.
I think Kelly can get the ball rolling of good recruits coming to UC when/if he commits.

I think UC has a good chance when all is said and done.
I'd say out of all his SEC offers the biggest threat at this point is probably Tennessee because of the distance factor.

I've actually heard a number of schools that have offered may be backing off him. I think the general consensus is that he is being over-recruited big-time. Michigan is his leader from what I hear.

Ryan Kelly and Donovan Clark would be huge for this class. I have to admit I wish they didnt seem so eager to get out of town. My hopes are very low on landing these two.

Personally I think Donovan Clark is going to really struggle to become a productive player in college no matter where he goes. That's just my own personal opinion however.

I have never seen him play, but your opinion seems to be the concensus. He doesn't dominate in a division of lesser competition so there seems to be much love for his sheer size.

Honestly I'm not sure the people around him have much experience either in dealing with his recruitment. I doubt anyone on the Finneytown staff has any experience. If the people close to him were wise they would tell him to decide ASAP. There is no way he is getting an OSU offer and there is no way USC would accept a commitment from him. The same thing could very well play out in the near future with UC and Tennessee since they are adding commitments pretty quickly now. That would be 4 of his Top 6 already moving on. I bet he ends up at a place like Indiana when all is said and done.

I'm glad that Florida is the odds-on-favorite compared to the others. At the very least, the potential for them to vacate the Sugar Bowl win could give pause....
