Not sure how I feel about it if we are using a scholorship on him but we'll see. Call me a skeptic but I find it odd that he qualified but for some unknown reason admissions at UM wouldn't let him in. I think Rich Rod may have had something to do with it. He wasn't highly recruited..with only two others interested (KSU and Fl Inter.). I happen to think he may have offered Witty a year ago just to get his highly touted teammate Denard Robinson in the class of '09. Both Robinson and Witty committed on 2/4/09. Then when Witty qualifies and it's time for Witty to come...all the sudden he doesn't get in? I haven't read anything on why addmissions denied him but it just seems odd. From what I've read there are a lot of people that think the only reason he was offered was to get Robinson who was being offered by the likes of Florida. There are others that say he was only a two star and not recruited much due to a knee injury.

Michigan's coaches only get so many waivers of players who wouldn't quailify for the school. Witty's scores and grades were good enough for the NCAA, but Michigan already used the waivers.
From the guy I spoke to from Michigan the staff was still trying to get him enrolled all through the year and up to a couple of weeks ago. If that wasn't the case then he would have been visiting more schools and going for more offers.
He was under recruited since he had an injury his junior year in high school. His senior year he was not full strength. Unlike Boston he is a true DB and will be playing the spot of DB.
He tore his ACL in March of 2008 so this kid could be amazing, but we will see.

That actually wasn't the case as to why he didn't qualify. From what I've heard, his test scores were flagged. Michigan has a system for how high you should score on a test with what type of GPA you have or something similar. I don't know how they do it, but for some reason they said he had an abnormally high test score. That's why Michigan wouldn't take him. I think it was that added in with the fact that Michigan football had already been in the media too much and they didn't want a chance at a fake test score hurting the university.
Their coaches did all they could to get him in school, so he's not just another 2* player. There was an article done stating he was faster than Denard Robinson before the ACL injury. Denard Robinson is the fastest guy on the Michigan team right now.

Thanks for the clarification I had not heard that. I think we both agree that he isn't just a normal 2 star.

Is his height, only 5'9", a big concern? With so many "big" receivers now in football, does this come into play? I only ask, as we lost Tre Boston, who was supposedly 6'1" and now get a DB who is 4" shorter. It seems as if on corner routes and passes into a shorter field, ie. the endzone his height may be a major disadvantage when it comes to balls thrown high for taller WR's (wr's over 6'2, as some are easily 6'4"-6'6")? Just asking, as maybe his althleticism makes up for any height issues, idk?

I'd actually like to see someone clarify this. On Rivals he is listed as 5'9". On Scout he is listed as 6'1". On ESPN he is listed as 5'11". That's a pretty big difference. If his speed is back up to where it was before his ACL injury his height won't matter a lot, but I'd just like to know where he's at.
I'll agree that he's a big addition to the class and could be the sleeper that no one has heard of. There's a few articles on Scout.com where his high school coach talks about Witty. He basically said that Witty was their entire defense and he didn't miss a beat his senior year after the ACL injury and said he was better than before the injury. I sure hope that's true.

Witty is one heck of a player, had he been able to get admitted he would have been in the mix at safety this past year at Michigan. Kid can play, the only thing that kept him out of Michigan were his grades. As has been mentioned he didn't qualify the first time he did the second time but admissions were weary based on the fact of his first admission.
It wouldn't shock me to learn that RR called up Butch Jones about Witty after admissions didn't let him in.

He can be a very good field corner. You need a taller guy on the boundry who can tackle, but we need a speed corner who won't get beat over his head.
