View Full Version : Davis May Be Surprise

Larry Davis led all newcomers in the scrimmage yesterday with 13 points.
He was #1 rated guard in Texas going into last season (DNP Injured) and if healthy again, may be able to give UC some scoring pop off the bench at G.

Well we certainly have more options than last year.

I'm dying for UC hoops to begin! It will be nice to see the Bearcats begin to rebuild their program. Our team will be alot better, but consider the future, when these guys are older and UC will consistently have a solid mix of veterans and freshmen who won't be asked to to be saviors.
It's gonna be fun to watch.

The lack of rebounds by our big men concern me. One thing I've always liked about Warren and Vaughn is their ability to hit the boards.

I'll repost my 4/18/07 post: Because of his injury, I think we're underrating the potential of Larry Davis. According to ESPN Insider he's rated higher than Mitchell and he's the #1 SG coming out of Texas this year.
He's had a year+ to recover so I think he'll be a strong contributor.

I was told only about 1200 were there. If so, that would be a very disappointing turnout. Losing the fb game the way we did surely didn't help.
I was also told McClain and Mitchell didn't look impressive at all, which isn't good news. We'll need real contributions from them, unless Davis is the real deal. My question about Davis would be, where and how did he get his points? The scoring totals don't mean that much in themselves.

I'm not to concerned with who looks good and who doesn't after one week of practice. The underclassmen rebounding isn't a big concern to me yet either. It typically takes a little while for them to adjust to the speed of the game.

Mick announced at the event that he should be eligible soon - maybe as soon as Monday.

Hows Mike Williams recovery process coming along?
Williams is fine and all smiles as usual at the event yesterday. He repeated he was out for the year. Things are progressing normally for this stage of the injury.
He gets his cast changed once a week as the ankle continues ts resolution. He wont start specific physical rehabbing for many weeks. He will be on crutches for some time, depending on the speed of the healing process.

One scrimmage and people are high and low on players already. Geez, wait until about 5 to 10 games into the season before you deep six a guy.

I bet Mick is already high on some players and low on others, too.

Unfortunately, there weren't anywhere close to 1,200 people in attendance. Everyone was seated on the West side, in the lower seats, which were somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 full (probably closer to 1/3). That area seats about 1,300.
Also, as I was watching the FB game from the baseball stadiium (along with 45 of my closest friends), I saw 200-300 people lined up for the Champion's Walk. There were 1,000 hats and shirts to give away, most of which went untaken.

Mick gets to see them a bit more often than just one scrimmage.

Indeed so let's trust his viewpoint and not the 1 Scrimmage Point Of View.

It's true about not expecting alot after one week of practice. At the same time, if you know what to look for, you can usually get a good idea of a player's basic skill level and what physical attributes he has.
I'm not expecting too much out of any of the freshmen their first year, with the exception of the potential impact of McClain's shot blocking ability. And I don't see anyone to fill the huge gap left at pf.

I think the Bearcats have 3 guys to fill the PF gap - Williamson, Sikes, Belton. None with Williams' talent but collectively, maybe fill the gap he leaves.
I look for Mitchell, Bishop, and Davis to play well on the wing and at guard.
