i've been shot down for my dislike for wilks not getting more playing time, see marquette little guys scoring at will with him not hitting the court, but does it not appear that this team has fed off of his energy in these two games? with the exception of ls, he's the first guy this year who has shown some serious enthusiasm out there. maybe his extended minutes have boosted his confidence but gifts come in strange packages. his dunk and foul and the chest bump with stephenson were a glimmer of hope in what has been a dark year. thanks dw.
by the way, it doesn't help he's made some shots. ha ha!

Wilks had a great game. I sure wish he'd grab a rebound strong with both hands once in awhile, but his enthusiasm and athleticism really showed tonight.

I second that. Wilks isn't a 30 minute player, but he does offer unique qualities that can cause problems for opposing teams.
FWIW, I think Wilks is MUCH better against zone teams, rather than man to man teams.

he's an equal opportunity offender in zone or man to man. his errors are mental, not due to lack of talent. he can be a very good defender when he doesn't overguard. that was why i could not believe he got no minutes against jimmy butler. some guys you just have to leave out there, and it has paid in this tourney. he's physically like a number of huggins players.

I like using him as a spark off the bench. You just have to be careful not to give him too many minutes or his mistakes start to pile up fast. You also have to put him in situations where he doesn't have to put the ball on the floor.
Yeah definitely was waiting for him to break out. I always thought of him as a Levett type player: great athleticism, decent shot, brings a lot of energy to the team. Hopefully he keeps it going

Wilks has had two great games. Let's keep it up. Bodes well for next year too if he
can play at a high level & become a scoring threat.
I like what I've seen & can't wait until tonite's win over WVU.

without wilks uc would have lost to louisville. he had a monster game, tipping rebounds so uc had more chances to pull it down, and most importantly his shot was dropping. the future is bright if these players can catapult off this year. cash lance parker and thomas look to be elevating their game as we speak. a great win. now hopefully they can come in focused and energized against a team that isnt in cincinnati but has a majority of uc's fanbase's loyalty, which is sad since its been 5 years since he left.
please get this win uc so i can LAUGH in all you cronin-hating so called "uc fans".

I thought the same thing. Great job by hitting the boards (7 total, 5 offensive). They announcers mentioned last night (like every announcer does every time we play Louisville) that Pitino and his staff chart "deflections."
I would love to go back and see how many "tips" Darnell had last night. He just seemed to be constantly around the ball. Great game last night by Darnell in the 24 minutes he played.

Maybe it's b/c I haven't seen him play much this year, but outside shooting form seems better to me than anyone else on the team. For whatever reason the team seems to play better offense with him in the game than Bishop. Perhaps he'll be a bigger contributor next year than most (including me) would have expected. It's nice for something to go right for a change.

Agreed ME80.
Statements like this cause more division and arouse emotions.
No place for these comments.

Wilks might be the best shooter on our team. He can have flashes where he looks unreal because he's such a good athlete but he's far from a complete player. His defense is awful, sometimes you have to give up a little on D to get a lot on offense. It seems like Mick is starting to realize that.

Give me a team full of Wilks and I'll win a lot of games. You can make up for a lot of deficiencies with a lot of hustle and desire. He is not a guy that you want playing 30 minutes (Though if he can improve his ball handling and shot selection he could surprise), but I think he is great for 10-14 minutes per game with his hustle that can be contagious.

the biggest thing that distinguishes wilks from some of the other players is that he doesn't stand around on offense. part of it may be that he is hyper by nature but they seem to improve, albeit not tremendously, when he's running around out there. hopefully, it's not an abberation.

Wrong. Without Wilks UC would have lost to Rutgers, and therefore would not ahve played Louisville.

I completely agree.
Statistically, he is fourth on the team in FG% at 53.4% (Tyree, Toyloy and Gates are ahead of him). He is 39 - 79.
He is leading the team in 3 Point FG% at 42.3%. He is 11 - 26.
Granted, it is an extremely small sample size. However, if he could avoid the stupid mistakes that have plagued him and led to minimal playing time, he could be a matchup problem for a lot of teams.
I hope he has another big game tonight.

I may not be Albert Einstein, but, 39-79 does not equate to 53.4%.

A team full of Wilks would be Providence.

I agree. He also seems to be directing traffic quite a bit. He seems to know what he is doing at there, for the most part. He does have his metal lapses though. The good outweighs the bad IMO.

My fault. Wasn't paying attention.
He is 44 - 84.
