View Full Version : I Have Questions!
Looking for answers--
1) Gates unmotivated--Mick's fault? I don't think so. How could Gates play so uninthused last night? Lazy? He will never make the Pros like that. He got 2 lazy fouls early-got out played by some white farm kid--unbelievable.
2) Davis--what does he add to this team?
3) McClain should be given a medal for just sitting on the bench-going on forever.
4) Dayton's offense was so much better than UC's--why??
5) How is the team going to be better next year? Are they miraculously going to shoot the ball better?
6) From what I have picked up, Bishop has been mouthing off all year. That situation should have been handled early in the campaign-not towards the end of the season.
7) Mick has to know they can't shoot. Why wouldn't he go out and get a shooter rather than a couple projects?

Yes. Mick's fault. Yancy should know that if he doesn't play to his strengths, and doesn't use the mighty biceps given to him by God, weightlifting, and whatever else, he won't play. But he knows he'll play no matter what. Remember, Eric Hicks didn't play significantly till his junior year, because he was told that if he didn't do what he was supposed to do, he wouldn't see the court. You can argue that Yancy's one of our best all you want, but when he puts up the staggeringly bad numbers he has lately, even Toyloy is a better option. But there doesn't seem to be any accountability on this team.
2) Davis--what does he add to this team?
A body. He's a guy who can play at a mediocre level, and should be used in a limited bench role. Still, though, his inadequacies are appalling. See point 1 for details on that.
McClain is just a tall non-athlete. Also, that wasn't a question. ;)
[quote]4) Dayton's offense was so much better than UC's--why??
See point 1. Again.
5) How is the team going to be better next year? Are they miraculously going to shoot the ball better?
Yes! The needle is pointed in the right direction! Never you mind that the needles is apparently circular and always points back at itself.
6) From what I have picked up, Bishop has been mouthing off all year. That situation should have been handled early in the campaign-not towards the end of the season.
With Mick's inability to handle situations that affect games, such as getting guys to do what they're good at instead of jacking up treys, jumpers, and bad hook shot, is it any wonder handling situations that don't directly affect the team on gameday is (apparently) poor, at best? That being said, we don't know what Bishop did/said, so beyond the point I just made, I think we ought to stay away from this subject as it relates to this specific situation.
7) Mick has to know they can't shoot. Why wouldn't he go out and get a shooter rather than a couple projects?
Apparently not, or he'd have made sure our offense wasn't based on a run-down-the-clock-and-shoot-type system. Again, see point 1.
In summary, all of your (actual) questions boil down to an inability of this coaching staff to get these guys to do what they're good at and stop playing to their weaknesses. Gameplans have been consistently poor, our offense has been consistently abysmal to the point where I (and others, most likely) question whether or not Mick even notices the chronic issues that plague it, defense, though usually fairly good, suffers from frequent lapses during which players fail to hustle and either foul or give up an easy shot. And even on the odd game where the team does play tough basketball, shooting percentage and offensive execution are still huge issues, and, after four years, they have yet to be addressed. I think most people would be much happier with Mick if those issues had been worked on, but our players were simply unable to play at a high enough level. Instead, we're doomed to watch talented athletes play agonizing basketball.

Come on folks! Can we please stop turning every thread into a Cronin vs. Huggs bash fest? Huggins is not UC's coach, has not been for five years now, is the coach of another program in UC's conference and is never coming back. Feel free to critique the performance of the team and the coaching staff, but refrain from comparisons of Cronin to former coaches.

Whoa whoa whoa. Stop this nonsense right now. You just said that there is no accountability on the team....where did all the "what kind of coach suspends a starter before the conf. tourney" comments or the ranting and raving about yancey being on the bench at the end of some crucial games. Seems very hyprocrytical.....actually doesnt seem. Straight up is. You lose a lot of credit when it damned if u do damned if u dont. You cant bitch about both sides of an argument.

And I haven't. I complained about Yancy's benching because it was stupid and ill-timed. I've said nary a word in response to Bishop's benching. If you'd like to respond to something I have said, please do so. But the way I see it, if the players were held accountable for their actions on the court, they'd play to their strengths, and we wouldn't have to watch Yancy miss three-foot jumpers or watch Vaughn hold the ball for 25 seconds and then jack up a missed three.

Let's just face it....Mick is a bad coach. No one respects him and he has no offensive game plan, whatsoever. Do you actually think for one minute that Yates would play the way he plays (or lack thereof) if Huggs was the coach? At some point, the coach has to be "accountable" for his team. Just the same in the business world. He recruited them, he teaches them, he motivates (or doesn't) them and he is responsible for their "output". He is failing miserably and needs to be dismissed.

I believe Tony "Yates" has exhausted his eligibility and also managed to wear out his welcome in the coaching profession as well.
Now if we're talking about Yancy "Gates" then that's a different story:rolleyes:

Yancy being lazy is not Mick's fault. Yancy has been lazy since high school and that's just his m/o. We all knew he was a lazy player before he came here and I wish everyone would quit talking about it. We knew this before he came here and he still acts this way. He's only hurting himself as he will never make it to the NBA with the way he plays.

1- No. If you watch Gates and how he acts on the floor, he is immature. There is only so much a coach can do.
2- Nothing.
3- I feel I should be given a medal for watching this team.
4- Dayton is not more talented. They just play harder. That's why I picked them to win.
5- You can improve shooting by practice.
6- Don;t know the deal there.
7- Everyone wants that. Few teams really have it. Lots of teams go on long offensive droughts. UC needs to work on better shot selection. IF you take easier shots, you will make more of them.
