Anyone know anything about him? Link on the main page is suggesting he may be committing to the 'Cats?

Went to LaSalle but transferred to Badin when he lost playing time.
Supposed to be a great player, but something must have happened for him to lose his spot.

I am actually surprised we haven't talked about him. There are many very good QBs in Ohio this year and he is sitting under the radar. More of a Collaros mold than a Pike mold. A little erratic right now per his stats, but don't know if that is decision making or poor throws. Nothing to suggest that couldn't change with another year of experience in high school. Seems to have all of the tools and then some. Come on down young man.

You're right there really hasn't been much talk about him on any of the boards. I've never seen him play so I can't add much either but the kid does have offers from Illinois, Minnesota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Boston College which is nothing to sneeze at. I can't think of any other QB in SW Ohio besides Braxton Miller that is being as heavily recruited as Coyne. I'll be interested to see how he does at the combines/summer camps and then obviously his senior year.

Wasn't Cole Stoudt supposed to be a pretty good prospect? I know he got hurt last year so I don't know where that stands right now...

We're actively cornering the market on QB and WR?
I hope we don't forget about our D...

I don't think we've forgotten about our D, it's just with the style/success of our offense it's been much easier to attract quality QBs and WRs. You'd think, though, that with the struggles we've had on defense that recruits would see the opportunity to get on the field on defense. Linebacker and D line have to be a top priority in this class.....along with at least a couple RBs.

Stoudt is still out there and a very good prospect as well. I think that Coyne may fit Jones' system better, but Stoudt is very good. I think it will be interesting to see if Robert Tanner wants to try his luck at QB somewhere or if he is S all the way.

I've heard people say that Stoudt is the best pure passer in Ohio. I know he had an offer from BK and the current staff has honored that offer. My guess would be that he'll get more offers if he comes back from his injury and has a good senior season (ASU is his only other BCS offer currently). I have a feeling that the first QB to accept an offer will be the only one taken. For 2011 we have ZC, Chazz, Kay, Legaux, Kater, and the 2011 recruit (Coyne/Stoudt potentially) as well as the walk on we just picked up. I can't see us taking more than one QB this year.

Good Get for Coach Butch. Does this mean this is it for QBs in the 2011 class?

Welcome aboard, Patrick! Great way to start off the 2011 class. Kid had half a dozen or so quality BCS offers and he wanted to become a bearcat. Great work by the coaching staff.

Is this the first Badin Ram to commit to the Bearcats since Joe Judge? Wecome aboard Patrick!

Coyne left LaSalle because coach Grippa felt Kummer was the QB of the future and wanted Coyne to play safety. (Coyne's freshman team went undefeated with Patrick getting most of the snaps)
Good example of politics getting in the way of sports at LaSalle. Most people would agree Coyne was much better than Kummer, but because Kummer's older brother had success in Grippa's offense, and is a St.James/White Oak boy, he got the nod for starting QB of the future.

As you guys know, I produce, on the side, videos (including B.C. Bearcat Classics). I have done highlight videos for many local high school players, including John Lloyd, the stud punter from CHCA, who signed with UC this year.
I did a highlight video for Pat Coyne when he was still at LaSalle. I can tell you this, the kid has an absolute rocket for an arm, and was one of only a couple freshman in the country, at the time, to be invited to a summer camp at some SEC school.
Then I found out he left LaSalle for Badin because he wasn't going to start at LaSalle? I couldn't believe it!
All I can say is that from what I saw, he is the real deal!

With the type of offense we run and the dual option QB's we recruit to run it does anyone else see some of these QB's as athletes who could be moved to another position for a season or two to get on the field. The kid for Louisiana comes to mind because he said he was recruited as QB but many schools saw him more as an athlete.

I've heard that Coyne has really performed well at summer camps and was named the MVP at the national underclassman combine held in Indianapolis. Apparently that is what's driving a lot of his early offers. Sounds like he has a lot of the right tools at least and I'm sure with his measurables/athleticism that he could play another position if it came down to it.

He said that he is really out there trying to recruit studs for the Bearcats. I think that I heard that just about a year ago too. I hope he will stick with his commitment and becomes a Bearcat.

Anyone else having a hard time with the bearcatlair page not loading? I haven't been able to get on all weekend.
Edit: Finally able to get on over there. Great article re: Coyne. You've got to love a kid that is taking it upon himself to recruit other top notch players to UC. It's also great to recruit players who have a LOVE for UC.

Not that it probably matters much, but Mike Dyer reported that Coyne was offered by Tennessee over the weekend.

Just goes to show how meaningless recruiting rankings are
Yes they are meaningless, however there have been some offseason scrimages that these scouts can look at to refine their rankings. They aren't done without any reasoning as some have postulated.
We have a dual threat QB who will fit in BJ's system, we got a solid running back for Pead to teach, and we have some stellar WR's coming into the works. Add on that some 300 lb lineman. I think we should be estactic with this recruiting class.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any reports of Coyne struggling during any offseason scrimmages. To me it's much more plausible that Rivals panders to fanbases with large numbers of subscribers and potential subscribers to their premium services. In some cases, it actually may be legitimate for them to weigh the opinion of a successful program that accepted a commit more heavily than their own evaluation, but the cynic in me says that it has more to do with the size of the fanbase than the on-field success of a program as to how a commitment to that program affects the ranking. IMO, if Coyne had committed to, I don't know, say, Notre Dame, he would not have been dropped in the rankings like he did.
Also, I am definitely ecstatic at the level of talent BJ is bringing in.

Patrick Coyne Quote
Just wanted to post these quotes Patrick Coyne had at our annual TriStateFootball.com Preview Show from Willie's in Mason.
"I talked to my family about how I wanted a coach who matched the same intensity and love that I have for the game and that's him (CBJ)"
"I'm still getting quote unquote big offers...I'm not even responding to any calls or letters. I'm not even opening letters anymore. I'm just excited to be a Bearcat."

That's the attitude we need from recruits. Love it
