D'Angelo Roberts
RB
5'10"
180 lbs
40: 4.36
Bloomington North HS, IN
Offers: Cincinnati, Indiana, WKU
Interest: Illinois, Iowa, UL, Mich, Mich St, osu, Purdue, Tenn, UCLA, Vandy, Wisconsin, Florida?
This kid has a lot of interest from some big schools. I think it is very apparent that the staff is planning on using a few scholarships on RBs with all the guys we are offering. These recruits would come in during Pead's sr year and hypothetically could redshirt. Good situation to have. Reading on someones board that he is getting UF interest and that if he were from a bigger school would be loaded with offers. Looks like he has been down for a visit.

From The Bloomington Herald-Times blog (full story tomorrow):
As D’Angelo Roberts’ recruitment continues to gain momentum, the North running back continues to hold in high esteem the school that offered him his first scholarship.
Indiana remains in Roberts’ top three, the junior wrote in a text message Monday afternoon.
Roberts declined to name the other two schools.
Indiana offered Roberts on Oct. 13. He was the first junior that the Hoosiers extended a scholarship invitation to.
Since then, he has kept Indiana high on his list, even as schools with grander traditions became interested in the record-setting back.
Eight Big Ten schools (the lone exceptions being Ohio State, Northwestern and Illinois), Florida, Ball State, Western Michigan and Western Kentucky have all been on North’s campus in recent weeks.
Ohio State and Illinois have expressed interest in Roberts previously (he went on an unofficial visit to Champaign, Ill. last fall).

Our RB recruiting woes continue
When you are known for a spread, pass first offensive attack it will be difficult to land top tier RB prospects (although I think we aren't given enough credit for a good ground game).

If we continue to strike out for a RB, look for the coaches to go the JC route.

I hear you, but I'd hope we could at least land a solid 3 star RB or two like Roberts. We still have lots of RB targets still on the board but this was a guy that looked like he'd fit in well in the spread offense that I thought we could land. We'll face much stiffer competition for most of our other RB targets.

It looks like JC RB Aaron Harris lists us as a team of interest although we haven't offered him yet. Scout lists him as a four star and their top JC RB. His highlight film on youtube is pretty impressive. I'd take him in a heartbeat although he'd only be a temporary stop gap and we'd need to take at least one HS RB to develop and add depth.

Let Pead get 1,000 yards and 10 TDs this year, and we'll get some RBs.

i'm of the same mind. i think we'll run more this season and once that is on film we'll have a better shot at landing an RB.

Plus, we've flipped a hoosier commit before, we can do it again. When the hoosiers are watching bowl games and we're playing in one, maybe he'll have a change of heart.

Didn't he turn around and head to Michigan?

I guess for some kids the lure of watching major bowl games is too much no matter how much you promise them that they will be playing in BCS Bowl games.

True. The Indiana coaching staff can sell kids on the fact that they will be able to be home spending time with their families during the holidays.

True, perhaps that says more about the recruit than it does about UC's ability to convince recruits otherwise.
Still, it begs the question, "would UC have been able to flip a recruit off of a BX(II) scholly in the past?" i think the answer would widely considered to be "no". i'll concede that we still have a ways to go before competing and beating the bluebloods, especially when they put on the full court press as they did for Djibreel (sp?) iirc (and Michigan still qualifies despite their recent performance). That said, as long as UC continues its renaissance, we'll start winning more and more of those battles.
