Probably one of if not the most important measure of success in NCAA men's basketball was released today.

Coach cronin has done a great job as usual only trailing Depaul, Marquette, Rutgers, St. John's, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Villanova, and West Virginia within the conference.

And Syracuse is going to lose 2 scholarships. That can only help!

Your lame attempt at humor not withstanding, however, there is no doubt that the academics and off court issues have improved tremendously since Coach Cronin took the helm. Hopefully, the academic success will continue as the on court performance continues to improve.

I posted APR stuff back in June when it really came out. Mick's teams over the last couple years has done very well academically. When you inherit nothing and still manage to do well despite bringing in several jucos last minute and having at least two guys transfer out (Crowell and Mitchell), not a bad job academically.

I believe those numbers are averages over several years. I have heard that the last couple of years UC's scores have been very high with at least one perfect score of 1000. With a several-year average of 945, it shows you where they were before.

.....and obviously WVU must have had many years of 1000 prior to Huggins, and he has drug them down to 990 already!

I can see where my post implied I was dogging on Huggs. He has done a good job so far academically at WVU. My point was supposed to be an objective positive for Cronin - that he's done a pretty darn good job in this area of his job, contrary to what the OP intended. If the current several year average is 945, and the last two or three years were very strong numbers, including a perfect 1000, then obviously the number 945 means Mick inherited much lower numbers. That was it. Sorry for the wrong implication.

Contrary to what I intended? Maybe some of you need to understand what "Coach cronin has done a great job as usual" means. I think coach Cronin has done a great job of making sure people are going to class, doing their homework, and passing tests. Sorry if it came off different.

I think APRs are a look at a single season of recruits and not an average of many years. The benchmark is 925. After two consecutive years of falling below 925, the NCAA can take away scholarships. For instance, I'm assuming that since Mick has only been here four years, he is just now having his 1st class of 4-yr. recruits graduating. I'm not sure how they handle Jucos. The class that just finished, which includes Deonta Vaughn, probably hasn't even been calculated. This 945 score is probably for a previous class of recruits (don't know what year this represents). But, I believe that this definitely is not an average of many years....it is a look at one specific year.

The APR is based on a four year history. Yes, it looks at the single class for instance, the class that started in 2006 is counted in the 2010 APR. However, the class that started in 2002-2005 are also counted in the 2010 APR. UC sports is listed in the link below. I also put a link where the ACC compares itself to the SEC (can you guess which is better?).
