UC recruit Patrick Coyne may be out for the season after suffering from an injury in the second quarter of tonight's game, it is expected to be a broken collar bone or a dislocated shoulder.

Well - if true, there's no other way to color this than disappointing, but he has time to recover. I hope he comes back full strength.

Definitely sad for him - sounded like he was geared up for a good year.

Really sucks that he'll miss his senior year, but I'd rather it be a collarbone than, say, a knee. He was probably going to redshirt either way next year with Zack being a senior, so I've gotta believe this won't be too terrible of a setback.

I read that he hopes to be back by week 7 or 8.

he is not likely to become a factor here until at least the 2012 season.

I hope that he gets the right treatment and heals completely. He would not have started his first two years at UC even if he were healthy so I say that he has plenty of time to rehab and get back into shape. I feel bad for the kid and wish him the best.

Back for week 7. UC coaching staff have already contacted him and emphasized their continued support. His surgery is scheduled for Monday.

Coyne's surgery was successful and full recovery is expected per BCL

Very unfortunate. I really think this kid is going to be a stud for us. I hope his rehab goes well.

I am honestly afraid for Collaros this year now. We seem to be in a pattern with our QBs having a tendency to be held together by screws and bubble gum.

I'm not worried yet, but I do think he might cool it a little bit on the scrambling to minimize injury risk.

If it were not so serious, I would have laughed at the bubble gum comment. However, having the QB run is part of Butch's game plan.

Collaros is put together. I know that doesnt always translate to staying healthy but is built.

I missed that Shaq got injured in his opener. It sounds like it is not major. Let's hope he recovers fully.

"Coincidentally, Shaq Washington (Coyne's best friend in this class and a summer teammate in a national 7-on-7 camp in Orlando ) was also knocked out of his team's season opening game because of an injury. He was also asked if he feared a serious injury could affect the status of his scholarship.
"It went through my mind a little bit, but I knew the Cincinnati coaching staff would still be on my side. I was fortunate that my injury is minor, and I should be back on the field real soon," said the Cleveland Plain Dealer's 2nd ranked player in northeast Ohio."

Also interesting to see that he is the 2nd ranked player in Northeast Ohio by Cleveland Plain Dealer. This is the same region with Cleveland Glenville.

Having the right players for the system insures that the productivity won't fall off too much. It says alot about the recruiting and the system when Zach Collaros comes in for a Heisman Nominee and kicks butt.
I have always thought that Kay has great potential to run this offense. I just hope he doesn't haven't to realize it this season.

I hope that we do not lose a couple of our existing QB's due to lack of playing time.

RS JR: Zach Collaros
RS JR: Chazz Anderson
RS Soph: Brendon Kay
RS: Munchie Legaux
RS: Cody Kater
RS: Nick West
I am assuming that all three freshmen will be red shirted this year. But say that Zach stays healthy and remains the starter through next year that may put Brendon as the starter his senior year. That is three seasons before Cody or Munchie even get a chance to see the field. They will both be RS/Jr's at that time. It would also mean that there could be a chance that one of those two may be two year starters. But if Coyne is that good, we may have a lot of competition for the QB spot each year out at Higher Ground. Both Munchie and Cody were highly regarded in high school.

BTW, if you did not see the depth chart just released, Anderson is listed as number 2.

Not to mention Jordan Luallen!

Per Mike Dyer, Coyne will be ready to go against Chaminade.

Anyone know for certain what Coyne is projected to play at the college level? At 6'1" 230lbs he seems a little thick for a QB. Don't get me wrong, I love it. It would be awesome to have a gunslinger who doubles as a bulldozer on the QB draw but Scout is saying he could play linebacker in college.

Either way this sounds like a great pickup for the Bearcats

I think Coyne is going to be a QB unless he proves that he can't do it. He's a little raw but he is extremely athletic and has a big time arm. We'll have some great QB battles over the next few years.

He may add an inch or two along the way. I grew 2-3 inches during my senior year.
