Mauk completed 28 of 37 passes for 516 yards and five touchdowns as Kenton routed Van Wert (Ohio), 70-34.

I assume he's related to Ben? Any word on his college plans?

He also has an offer from ND and from what I heard ND is the favorite right now...

HIs dad is the coach and kicks tons of onsides kicks and never ever runs. He is seriously padding Maty stats.

At the same time though if the other team knows they are passing they can gameplan accordingly.

Kenton has always run a high octane offense. Ben put up huge numbers in high school and I believe he holds some national records. Maty looks to maybe have better physical tools than his brother did. Now, we don't know if Maty has all the intangibles that made Ben such a special player but I'd love to have him in red & black. That said, I think it's going to be nearly impossible for us to beat out ND for him.

I know that Ben was helping recruit him. I am not sure if he was recruiting him to play for BK or for UC. If it was for BK, he will most likely end up at ND.

Kicking onside kicks up 3 td's is absurd.

Everything I've seen had ND as his #1

Is Mauk at ND now? If not, where?

Ben was in Cincinnati playing for the championship arena football team. I think that he was trying to get on at some local high school. May be back helping his dad now.

Saw him play at their season opener against Coldwater this year. He fits well into Kelly's system but I'm not sure BK is going to be running the same time of mobile-QB spread at Notre Dame that he ran and CMU and UC.

I've read all the same stuff from Scout and Rivals that you all are eluding to so I can't add any value there. However, in watching the Kenton-Coldwater game I felt like I was witnessing a human version of someone playing NCAA11 or Madden NFL 11.

As you guys know Maty's dad is the coach and Coach Mike Mauk is doing everything he can to promote his son the same way he tried to promote Ben. What I witnessed was an extremely aggressive gameplan that relied entirely on his son's arm. The Kenton Wildcats under Mike Mauk run a 5-wide, shotgun offense. Not once did I see a running back in the back field. Coach Mauk only kicked it away during kickoffs twice in the entire game including a squib kick at the end of the game to prevent a run back. Maty is also the punter so they ran a fake punt at least once in the game and converted. They went for two during the PAT every single time during the game and regularly went for it on 4th and greater-than-ten inside their own 30. It was absolutely ridiculous how blatant Coach Mauk's motives were during the game and from what I have heard from people familiar with the Kenton program this is typical when one of his kids are running the offense.

On the other hand, Maty did deliver. I think he had over 500 total yards. The junior looked very polished for a high school quarterback. That offense runs 5-wide which includes multiple reads. And Coldwater is probably the top program in the MAC albeit they're going through a rough patch with the loss of their coach so it's not like Maty was facing a weak program. He looked comfortable rolling out to both the left and the right. He didn't seem to favor either direction.

All in all I think he would be a great fit at UC. I don't think he will be a good fit at Notre Dame. He's a little undersized, and while I am as big of a UC fan as anybody but I don't think UC's schedule posing the same risk of injury to a QB as does Notre Dame's. I think a slightly undersized Maty Mauk is a liability holding up to defenders from USC and some of the Big Ten teams in the upper half that conference versus the Big East schedule. This may be why Ben got overlooked from all D-1 programs sans Wake and Rutgers. Ergo, I think he's a better fit in a Bearcat uniform as Brian Kelly's recruiting style is likely to reflect a more pro-style or conservative offense versus what we've witnessed from him in the past.

As a plus note, Ohio State has thoroughly overlooked Mauk and this has left his family with a chip on their shoulder. Even if Sweatervest came around with an offer I'm not so sure Maty would accept it so there's at least one recruiting competitor out of the picture.

Mauk went 33 of 50 (66%) for 348 with 3 TDs and 2 INTs.

Looks like Ottawa-Glandorf figured out how to defeat Coach Mauk's Wildcats. Here's a line from the linked article below:

Utilizing a unique defensive alignment with no down defensive linemen, O-G stopped four Kenton drives that reached at least the 35 yard line. Siefeker, a senor linebacker, stopped one with an interception at the O-G nine.

Last 3 games:

- 28/40; 496 yards; 7 TDs; 2 INTs; 70-21 win over Elida
- 29/42; 395 yards; 6 TDs; 1 INTs; 60-0 win over Bath
- 29/38; 497 yards; 5 TDs; 0 INTs; 58-14 win over Celina

Season stats:

- 222/325; 3211 yards; 38 TDs; 8 INTs; 89 rushes for 464 yards; 5.21 avg; 10 TDs

Tons of pass attempts during blowouts and lots of 2 point conversions, so the stat-pumping continues. Regardless, I'd still love to have him.

Mauk threw for 5 TDs and ran in a 2 pt. conversion in last night's 36-28 win over Clinton-Massie at Welcome Stadium.

I don't like his sidearm, flick of the wrist release, but that can be corrected.

He certainly is not afraid of contact.

Might be a good linebacker!

We're ok for 2011 but it really depends on how many heads you want for 2012. We probably want one in the 2012 class that will r/s.

2011: Collaros, Anderson, Kay, Luallen, Coyne, cody kater
2012: Kay, Luallen, Coyne, kater...

You still have the Kid for LA, Legeux in 12'. Don't they look for at least one QB per class?

He's gotten on the field as a WR so i figured he'd stay there. As far as your other question i feel that a minimum of 1 qb per class but that was only because BK had no troubles moving qbs to other positions. i don't know what coach butch's philosophy is...

ND is after this kid? Wonder what BK is thinking. ND will be able to draw your prototypical 6'5" 225lb QB prospects.

I like Mauk but given the shift BK displayed in his offensive style in the back half of the season I wonder how Maty would transition to a more conservative, double TE, or even I-formation set that looks to strongly incorporate the run. It seems BK realized a reliance on the run is what it will take to win at ND given their schedule.

Personally, what I've seen of Butch's offense and what Maty's dad runs at Kettering I think Mauk is a perfect fit here at UC. The only team on that list I think even rivals the fit that UC offers is Mizzou as they may actually be the college equivalent of Coach Mike Mauk's run-and-gun (without the run) offense he's implemented at Kettering HS.

Gad - Penn State, where quarterbacks go to die.... Until they get a decent QB coach with ACTUAL experience and ability no QB in his right mind should go there.

Kind of random but I was in columbus for my brothers basketball tournament and I saw a gentleman with a bearcat shirt on and I said something to him. He said he is family friends with the Mauk's. I believed him because he knew an awful lot about Ben and now Maty.

He said that Maty has a better arm that Ben did. He stated that Maty really likes Mizzou at this point.

Blaine Gabbert potentially being the #1 pick in the upcoming draft probably doesn't hurt. Mauk's the one blue chip QB recruit we're in on in the 2012 class I actually think we have a shot of landing... really hope he becomes a 'Cat.

Mauk wants to go to ND and they'll take him as long as Gunner Kiel goes elsewhere.

While I can't blame the kid for wanting to go and play under a storied program with a national TV contract with NBC, and not to mention the ancillary benefits he will receive in the job market when his resume says he graduated from ND (name recognition and a conversation piece) I have to wonder if his ball skills will be best utilized at Notre Dame.

As I've stated above, what I've seen of Maty in person under his dad's system at Kenton will not fly at Notre Dame. Brian Kelly is already moving away from the XBox/PS3 style offense he was known for in the past.

The question for Maty is can a decade of tutelege by his dad be unwound in a year or two by Brian Kelly to make Maty a suitable pro-style QB and not the run-and-gun QB he was raised to be. I think Maty will have a more effortless transition to a smaller program like UC or Mizzou that employs a similar offense to what he's used to. But again, I can't fault the kid for wanting to go to ND I just question if he'll actually play there.

PS: what I'm hearing from the ND faithful is that not only do they have a fierce QB battle this year with Dayne Crist and the youngster Tommy Rees they're also saying Moeller product Andrew Hendrix is coming along nicely. Seems there's plenty of competition in South Bend.

I have to agree with that. Mauk may never see the field at ND. While ND is awesome and everything, if I were an athlete I'd want to play.

Exactly. Mizzou is the closest thing to what I've seen Maty's dad/coach Mike Mauk run now that Mike Leach is no longer running 5-wide at Texas Tech. On that note, if you haven't seen Kenton HS in person that's the closest correlary I can think of that you may be familiar with - TX Tech under Mike Leach when they had Graham Harrel and Michael Crabtree. As much as UC, being a smaller program both in prestige and size, will be forced to run the spread to get their athletes in space versus going head to head in the trenches, it doesn't look like Butch Jones will air it out as much as Maty and his dad would like. As much as I would have liked to see Maty display his skills at UC I think we all saw this coming.

I guess we can't blame Maty for choosing Mizzou. He will have the opportunity to throw to the number one overall recruit in the nation this year. A 6'6" 220 pounder with 4.43 speed.
